Pat Summit Diagnosed with Dementia

Shocking news, sad day. We can only hope that the progression of this dreaded diseased is s-l-o-w. Still, Cronan and Summitt will need to formulate a retirement/succession plan--sooner rather than later. Pat should go out at the top of her game.

Early onset unfortunately tends to be aggressive

Who do you think is in line to succeed her?

The #1 choice I had in mind was Nikki Caldwell, but she just left UCLA for LSU and has yet to coach her first game in Baton Rouge, so that probably isn't happening.

Just a guess but I think Kellie Jolly-Harper could emerge as a top candidate.

Very very sad. I have so much respect for Pat Summit as a coach. Not just because she coaches the Lady Vols, but in the manner she has conducted herself and demanded excellence with her teams. Women's sports all over the country are in debt to her and I hope the dementia doesn't progress rapidly.

Prayers sent.

.

it is just sad.

Isn't it just like Pat Summit to say there will be "no pity party?" Okay, no pity, just love. We love you Pat.

So sad to think that she could lose memory of all those great teams, seasons and championships.

i think they reward loyalty with loyalty. #1 choice would be Holly Warlick. She'll coach until Tyler can take over and continue Pat's legacy

This was a total shock,my thoughts and prayers go out to CPS and her family. The last time I checked God has the last word.
PS is a sports Icon.
I heard this news on Sirrus radio and you wouldnt believe the calls Finebaum was getting from people all over the country talking about how great she is and how respected she is.

Pat Summit is nothing if not a fighter. She won't go easy. She'll fight this disease every step of the way. And the thing is, if you've ever been in her presence, you think if anyone can come through this, it's her. The aura this woman radiates is amazing. My thoughts and prayers are absolutely with her and her family. If I had to choose one person to represent UT, it would be Pat Summit. Total class.

IF Pat has to step down, I'd say Holly Warlick would be choice number one. She played for Pat and has coached with her for like 25+ years. Micki DeMoss would probably be choice number two.

No matter what your interest may be in womens basketball, Pat Summit is an icon for our University. She epitomizes class and intergrety and is the standard for how collegiate coaches should handle themselves.

x2 my friend. Coach Summitt IS women's collegiate sports. My family is praying for CPS and her family, AND for the Lady Vols family.

I recently lost my father and it's tough for me and my family. This is a tough thing for her and her family and was shocked to see it today. Be thankful for everyday and make sure to make each one count and love those around you. Praying for you Coach and your family!

I dont know how the rest of the world is feeling but I lost my nerve with that announcement. Pat Summit has defined this program for decades. I remember seeing her at West Town Mall and having a 30 minute conversation not only on UT but on life in General. I cherish the moments I got to spend with her....Larger than life...Its like Watching Ali...Im done talking...I love you Coach :)
