Pat Summit Diagnosed with Dementia

Just heard about Coach Pat...dang, what a tragedy for her, her family, and the University...thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. God bless.

x2 my friend. Coach Summitt IS women's collegiate sports. My family is praying for CPS and her family, AND for the Lady Vols family.

I dont know how the rest of the world is feeling but I lost my nerve with that announcement. Pat Summit has defined this program for decades. I remember seeing her at West Town Mall and having a 30 minute conversation not only on UT but on life in General. I cherish the moments I got to spend with her....Larger than life...Its like Watching Ali...Im done talking...I love you Coach :)

The pictures in that link are incredible. How freaking cool it must have been to be 5 years old and having your mom haul you up to cut the net down. Tyler is a senior now, is that right? Will be a tough year for him, and tough times ahead.

As a Michigan State Spartan, and a Florida Gator, I can tell you that all of college sports feels the pain right now. I have been a CPS fan for a long time. Having athletic daughters, you cannot help but notice a person like her, and my kids look up to her as a person, and coach.

This will be quite a battle, but I know that she has vol nation on her side. I was already planning to be at as many games as possible with my daughters this year, but this makes it a bit more important.

Again, prayers to the Summit and Vols family from the GatorBill family. Now go out and kick some asz!!

oh, waitwaitwait, one quick little story:

two years ago, when my daughter was on campus for an athletic camp, we tried to sneak into Thompson-Boling. Trying to find an open door so we could get pictures down on the court.

We ran into 3 ol duffers coming out of a door, and they stopped to see if they could help us with something.

They were grade school friends of Pat Summit and they were in town to have lunch with her. It is something they do every summer.

They gave us a tour of the complex, got us down on the floor. took pictures of us with our camera. They also put on quite a recruiting speech, knowing that my kid has always had Michigan State as her first choice.

But the thing that stuck out the most was the twinkle in the eyes, and the smiles on their faces as they talked about Coach Summit. It was a very cool experience, one that my daughter and I will always cherish.

On perhaps a slightly lighter note, short of murdering a referee, what does Pat have to do to get a technical this year?

This entire topic is depressing, then this comes up and honestly... I smiled at that. Humor is, without question, one of the best ways to deal with tragedy. If not the best.

In the spirit of this, are we not able to say with all the coverage we have received (even with Bruce Pearl's sanctions being announced) that ESPN does, in fact, NOT hate us?

Good post GatorBill

I hate it so bad for her...a legend, a game changer, if anything she will fight this with every ounce of energy she has.
