Patterson's Combine Work Could Make Him 1st WR Picked

I fail to see how anyone can complain about an offense that finished 18th nationally in total offense with over 35 points per game while playing 8 games against SEC opponents. That is the definition of negative to complain about that. The offensive coaching staff did an outstanding job last year, especially with the O-line and run game improvement.

Dools messed it up the first two years with bad offense, then his last year with beyond bad defense. Throughout it all he micro managed the program while destroying team morale by playing favorites with problem children and was one of the very worst game day coaches in the history of college football.

New era, new broom sweeps clean. Let's see what happens with Hart's guy.

It made me wonder what could of been....and then it hit me......we couldnt stop anyone on defense.......:(

We "could have" scored 38 on Florida.
We "could have" scored against Bama.
We "could "have" executed Vandy early on with our offense, and shut up those punks.
We "could have" scored more than once in the second half against Missouri.
We could have used all this NFL talent to jump out to a big lead on the teams we play. Then we "could have" had won some games and had a successful season.
But we did not.
And now we are supposed to watch the combine with glee and think about the season that "could have been".

I'd rather get high.

You can look at all the stats you want but in 4 games Georgia, Mississippi State, South Carolina, & Missouri our offense had the ball in hand with the opportunity to go win the game and each time it was either 3 and out or a turnover.

How many did we score in the second half against Florida?
How much did we score on Bama?
How far behind Georgia were we before we started scoring?
South Carolina was our best offensive game, from start to finish.
Some of the football newbs will be blinded by us averaging 37 points a game, but we were not a fearsome offense, not in the least.

This post is a big pile of stupid. One of the points you make is "How far behind Georgia were we before we started scoring?" What does that matter? So our offense sucks because we scored 44 instead of 52? When you score 44 points against UGA it shouldn't matter if you scored them in the last 5 seonds or evenly across 4 quarters, you should win the game every single time.

CP will be a star. He has more talent than anyone I have saw play at Neyland in years.

I seen CP play at Neyland two, and I have too agree with you; he is the most talented player I have saw ever. Its to bad he never learn how to ran route correct. Maybe a good coach in the NFL will learn him how.

If our offense was so darn great, what game did it win for us? Wins still matter, don't they? Or is it good enough to average 37 points?

Offense did not suck. Rarely out-played it's cometition, but it did not suck. And I never said it did (suck). Nice try.

You can have a good offense and still not win games. This happens because you have the worst defense in the history of your football program. This isn't hard to understand what do you need me to clarify?

Rarely out-played it's competition? You are out of your mind.

If we swapped defenses with every team we played this year we likely end up undefeated national champions....maybe a 1 loss team.

While all of this makes sense and is likely true, it doesn't answer my question. We aren't going to go back and win games previously played and it's really not going to help us get wins in the future. By the time the 2013 season plays out, no one is going to remember how good CP and Bray looked in the combine. Their showing in the combine also is no reflection whatsoever on Butch Jones.

I'm not dogging Butch with this, I'm just trying to figure out why it matters.

Because it helps recruiting. If TN has 3 drafted in the first round, it creates a buzz and gets TN mentioned a lot on draft day. If they go on and be successful in the NFL, it will also help recruiting.

If you are a young QB trying to pick between UT and another SEC school and you see Peyton is involved with UT, don't you think that might influence their opinion?

If I swapped bank accounts with Jay-Z I would be rich. So what?

It means our offense was better than every offense we played against with maybe the exception of Alabama and UGA thus meaning we had a good offense. I am just repeating myself because you don't understand the logic behind that. Your mouth breathing is no longer worth my time.

If CP is the first WR chosen in the 2013 NFL draft it only cements our reputation as Wide Receiver U. Throw in Tyler making a big push into the first round, and we are sitting high on the pedestal in the eyes of a lot of people on draft day.

"Patterson has limited major college experience but has the measurables teams like. Sunday’s 40-yard dash time of 4.42 seconds is a great sign for his chances of being the No. 1 receiver selected."

I love Patterson but he won't be the first wr taken. He's got some weaknesses in comprehension and is just still a raw talent. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see him go in the 1st round though. Bray will not go in the 1st round. He's got the big arm but too many questions concerning character and leadership skills. Those two areas are huge at the QB position.

I think Butch will sit in a top wr prospect's living room and say, "even with the most incompetent HC we could find, we still put wr's in the pros. Cause we're WRU, butch!"

I love butch....but he had absolutely nothing to do with any of those player's development.
