Pay Heupel $10,000,000 now for 10 years

The win last week was amazing. But let's not mortgage the whole future of the program just yet. Let the season play out. If we make it to the playoff, at that point, talk of a (second) raise is justified.

Jimbo beat Bama a year ago. Would you want him right now as our coach?
Jimbo wasn’t 7-0

Except everyone isn’t replaceable. That’s why the Nick Saban’s, Landon James’, and others who are elite at what they do make as much as they do.

There’s no large list of attainable coaches who can replicate what CJH has done. And the odds of us making that hire are slim to none giving how short the list is
Not sure what his pay should be but for sure in the lower tier of the SEC is not right! He no doubt will have all new terms after the close of the season (or before the National championship playoffs!!).

Just to throw some salt out here, does anyone remember Josh Heuple's predecessor at UCF? He went big time there and went undefeated one year and scored a job at Nebraska and failed miserably.
I think Heuple knows where his bread is buttered and also knows that he will be well compensated.
We don't need to shower him with money for one good year, I'm sure he'll get a raise that will put him in the upper stratosphere of college coaches, though. Continued success will make him wealthy, as it does the athletic department.

The problem with paying some of these coaches 10m a year is not the problem it’s guaranteeing them that for 10 years.

I would renegotiate his contract to be a 5 year term. Next year would be 8, 8.5 the next and 9 the next 3.

I would write a clause that salary automatically goes to 9 with the winning of SECCG and is automatically extended for 2 additional years. If he wins NC salary automatically goes to 10 with 2 year auto extensions. BYOUT clauses would be substantial and auto update as salary does.

BUT the staff pay must also match, some of this staff cannot be let out of the house either.

I’m certain he will get a pay bump in the off season that will reflect the end performance.

Winning cures all.
Finally, sanity. It’s probably safe to say Heupel is not going to bolt in the middle of a potential NC season. Let it play out. If we win the natty, pay him $12 mil. per year. If we lose to Vandy, he can stay at his current pay.

His name isn't even mentioned in current coaching searches. He's not even on the radar. Even if he was we have the resources to top any offer someone gives him. Not to mention the trust and relationship he has with AD White? So tell me the rationale behind giving him $10,000,000 tomorrow???
Nobody is going to offer him that has an opening at the moment. Nobody is unrealistic enough to think that Heupel would consider leaving Knoxville for Wisconsin, GA Tech, or Colorado.

I don’t think he’s leaving, but if A&M decided to finally cut ties with Jimbo you can be sure they will throw every bit of that oil money at Heupel.

even with the frayed relationship, if Venables continues to flounder through next year, Oklahoma will do everything in its power to mend those fences. Hell, they’d probably send Stoops to Knoxville crawling on his knees with a bouquet of flowers.

Any program with a sense of competence will come after Heupel if they believe they have a shot. It may not be realistic, but neither is the idea that we will hold onto a coach who makes less than a majority of the coaches in the SEC.

Depends on what Heupel values and none of us knows what that is. Believe it or not for some people money isn't everything. Time will tell but I have confidence in Danny White and Josh Heupel.

He's getting a market rate right now. Stupid to give him a raise tomorrow when he doesn't even have another offer out there.

And another lesson for you, everyone is replaceable. I don't care who they are, how great they think they are or whatever, there's always somebody else capable and willing to replace them. I dont anticipate Director White bungling like previous administrations, but I could be wrong there.
So you didn’t learn a lesson from the last 15 years… It took us 5 tries to replace the last guy that had us at 7-0.
