The last time I saw him several years back he walked pretty normally. I haven't been back to Bryson City much since my parents passed. I believe he and his wife still live around Waynesville or between there and Asheville. At one point it was reported the damage he sustained was going to cost him normal mobility. Any updates on his later in life status?
Just one example. There are others who left when a year might have helped them or at least changed their path in a good way. Can't compare the transition of a DE/OLB to the NFL with the transition to the hardest position in the NFL.
I think in his situation it's, by far, the best decision. Of course it's not a certainty it works outJust one example. There are others who left when a year might have helped them or at least changed their path in a good way.
There are no guarantees with decisions like that. You just do the best you can with the information you have. The only people truly "wrong" are those declaring it has to be one way or the other in every circumstance.
This. Ppl have this idea that nil can match the nfl in money. That second contract is what it’s all about for nfl players. Nil cannot and will never touch that. Get to the league while ya can and work for that second contract. Going in first round gives you a head start and more opportunities, it doesn’t get much better. That's not how it works as an athlete. Peyton got an $11M signing bonus, that's guaranteed, right off the bat money in 1998, not mention his salary for the first contract.
Sure, he was set for life after that contract and should've retired after his rookie deal, right?
Like Peyton, Pearce can earn an absolute MOUNTAIN of cash in his second contract in the NFL if he's successful at that level. Even if he's not, if he goes early in the draft, he'll have a massive guaranteed signing bonus to cushion him if he doesn't do well.
The sooner he gets to that second contract, the quicker he makes huge bucks AND with just 3 seasons becomes vested in the NFL retirement/health benefits package.
He gone.
If you can go in the first round, your best bet is to go. Generally a stud pass rusher is pretty situation-proof.Just one example. There are others who left when a year might have helped them or at least changed their path in a good way.

It's not completely invalid. In the biggest games the DL skipped town. It's not like Pearce was out there carrying them all on his own against Georgia and OSU. I think he's going to be a pretty solid NFL player but I needed to see more this year to think he's going to be a consistent pro bowler.Every fan base has their share of fans that are ignorant. Ours, unfortunately, is no different.
