Pearce Situation

Opposing teams will scheme to keep Pearce from being an impact player, which will make him an impact player because they are scheming to keep him from making an impact. That just opens the door for other defensive players to get to the QB or RB in the backfield.
Is that a word salad? I think it's having an impact.

On one play I noticed the RT, TE and I believe the RG all tripled team Pearce, their plan was to stop him at all cost

Not understanding what's going on with Pearce. Josephs started in front of him at LEO last night, yet Pearce played on special teams and made a nice stop on kick off D. Is he injured / knicked up? Discliplinary action? Not discounting Josephs is a solid player, but Pearce has been built up all preseason as a potential top 10 draft pick.

Hasn’t he been double teamed most of the time? If so, I love that cause it’s more for the other dogs get to eat.

This. What he said.

Here's what I think. The Heup is an orange devil in disguise. Opponent coaches presume they have the Vols figured out. Heup & Co, will scheme, not plays, but games to throw them off. Last night's two TE offense was an example. In short, he is/will force opposing coaches to scheme the wrong schemes for games. Then during games at whatever point he deems the right time, earthquake them.
I don't think opposing coaches presume they have the Vols figured out. In fact, I'm certain they aren't thinking anything remotely close to it

Both Josephs and Pearce started last night, in fact Pearce got an early TFL on a run on the first drive. He might not have gotten a sack, but clearly he affected McCall several times causing him to step up. His pressure lead to that strip sack/ recovery by Bailey. Also had another one near the goal line.

If you noticed State was pretty much always running away from the side Pearce was on as well (which as it turns out trying to run on West or Josephs is also a mistake).

That's also not him on special teams, that's Peyton Lewis, who is also a very big guy at 6'1" 210. Both of them are #27.

There was one play where McCall got the ball out just before Pierce got him. It probably should have been a sack. He has been a stud along with Omari Thomas. However, what makes them so great is how they are working together with the rest of the defense.

I think that Heupel is helping his draft stock. He's not one dimensional and this is helping to show that.

Plus, we've got some other players that are very good in his role as a pass rusher.

This is a win-win for everyone.

Pearce is getting the Baron treatment from last season, which is creating opportunities for others along the line.

There were times when NC State triple teamed him and that’s fine because it lead to the rest of the D-line absolutely killing them. When teams realize it doesn’t work overall, he will start making more plays.

In my mind, we have 8 starters and the rest are 2nd string.

Find me a Defensive Coordinator who disagrees!

Maybe go back and rewatch the game….in slow motion if it helps…thanks for the title

You mean like telling us what other coaches are thinking without really having a clue
No, I mean giving my opinion about something. I assume you have a mind and can decide if my thoughts are possible or not. Maybe even reaching a decision without being blatantly insulting. Though, I'm not really offended, because insults give me a chance to engage to word play, or turn a phrase back at the insulter, It's sort of fun, you know.

And you can bet he likes it like that. He doesn't have to make all the plays; get a break, stays fresh. Win Win.

I agree. Something seems strange.
