Pearl and UT Basketball.

Bruce is the man. I've enjoyed basketball season at Tennessee since he came here.

Bruce has done an AMAZING job at UT!:clapping::salute::yahoo:

Ray Mears had some good teams, especdially during the Ernie/Bernie years but not quite as good as Bruce has. I now believe that UT has the two best coaches in the country for basketball at the University level. Don't know of any other university who can match up with the stats that UT has for our coaches.:good!::dance2:

GO VOLS!!!:clapping:

Then you haven't looked very closely at other schools. We have good coaches in place now, but to say no other school can match up is stupid.

Arkansas won a national title playing their "forty minutes of hell" offense. How stupid are you to realize that it all depends on the players to execute the game plan no matter what it is. If the players are good enough to execute , then , no matter the type of offense AND defense they will win. If you think you know better then why aren't you making the millions Pearl is making.:frown:

Nonsense. See Louisville vs Michigan State from the elite 8 a few years ago. Louisville had better athletes and what most considered better players. Izzo with his halfcourt game and defense laid the wood to Pitino's fast paced system. Instead of attempting to make changes and tweaking style to compensate, he stuck with you're theory and ended up packing his bags.

Hell, Kentucky last year is another prime example.

What?

Kentucky played full court defense?

Very difficult to see what you are trying to say here.

If you are saying Calipari is a retarded X's and O's coach who is incapable of adjustment and who could have beaten West Virginia if he fed the post instead of allowing his brick artists to miss 3 after 3, we are in agreement....

But his team could have caused tons of turnovers if he had gotten the absurd physical skill of his guards to play some defense and run fullcourt at slower guards.

Particularly against WVU which lacked the guard skill to get it past an effective press.

Thats you're brain getting in the way, because I thought I put it in simple terms. I mentioned nothing about full court defense. I was merely pointing out another example of a coach/team with superior talent that failed to make any adjustments and lost because of it.

As for the press, there is no doubt about that. Evidenced by the effectiveness of the press when we actually applied it, once we were to far down to make a comeback.

Coincidentally, Calipari made his annual statement last week that "next years team is going to press more".

Pitino and Arkansas (the team he was talking about when you responded) played a style of defense I enjoyed watching.

I think Cal would have another title if he had done the same.

Hardwood, you are giving MHF too much credit. You are assuming that he actually has a brain. Perhaps he does and just chooses never to use it.

Watching those two teams during the early and mid 90's brings back some of my best memories of college basketball. Arkansas and UK went at it time and time again, with their two similar styles butting heads. As much as I hated them, at the same time I really liked those Nolan Richardson teams.

I am curious as to what title Cal already has though...

Again, you are assuming that MHF has some clue about his posts. Perhaps you forgot about that national championship he already has. I would certainly that he should have one if he had provided any coaching at the end of the Kansas game. It was a game they almost couldn't lose, but excellent coaching found a way.:)

Sorry I meant UK would have another title. As in Cal would bring Kentucky another National Championship. His free throws cost him one and his cheating (which others will cry about and say was not his) cost him Final 4s

I am now assuming from how poorly written BVF's posts are that he is either a teenager or a mentally handicapped adult and either way it is mean to argue with him.

Not really. They backed off the 40 minutes theme when their ball club no longer had the makeup to beat you with it. Corliss, Beck and Thurman were not 40 minutes of hell. They played a bit uptempo, but they could kick your ass in the halfcourt on either end when they needed to.
Evidently you didn't watch the same game I did. They pressed their advantage every chance they got. Fast break after fast break and always attacking the basket. Richardson wouldn't let them play any other way. That was is game and he worked it almost to perfection.:jpshakehead:

You continue to make assumptions based on your inability to function mentally. I have accepted your mental handicap and allow for it in all your posts, in which you verify your status each and every time.

It had nothing to do with the offense. Defense gets you places in the postseason. Fast paced offense is not the difference between several years ago and this year. This year they played really good defense in the halfcourt.

Even if your assumption held any merit, one title in over two decades should speak volumes to you and the rest of the chaos lovers.

And you can read his first line about Nolan Richardson's "40 minutes of Hell offense" and realize his assumptions don't hold much merit.

With some of his comments up to this point, he is certainly placing himself in a distinguished category.

I was speaking specifically about the offense. I know they also played it on the defensive side of the ball. Condescend all you want to. You're just like a damned Kensucky fan!:fool:

That's funny. This appears to be a recent condescending statement that you didn't take issue with.

Also, before calling people stupid on here, try having the first clue what you're talking about.

Just saw where Coach Pearl will be featured on Katz Coaches Special, today at 6 on ESPNU. It will be Pearl, Tom Izzo, and Notre Dame's coach. FYI
