One other factor has been overlooked by the pro-Vol media who continually make excuses for the Tennessee athletics department's inept performances. Pearl those great seasons his first three years at Tennessee with players recruited by ousted coach Buzz Peterson. Pearl's own players have turned out to be duds. The Vols could still end up in the NCAA tournament, but they don't deserve to be there.

this is beginning to be like the Lane Kiffin recruiting stories that seem to pop up everywhere...sheesh.

I think he's just learning to adjust his recruiting/coaching style. For most of his career he has had the "luxury" of coaching players with a chip on their shoulder and something to prove. With his recent success, he has been able to recruit more "talented" players who have been told for years they are great. So far, admittedly looking from the outside, these players don't seem to be as coachable. I think he'll figure it out, but this team just isn't any fun to watch. . .

Yeah, and look at what Peterson did with his recruits, and then look at what Pearl has done with them.

I support all UT athletics, but don't support Bruce Pearl. I worked with him when he was at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and the man is a snake in the grass. I don't think he's a good X's and O's coach, but coaches a fun style of bball that most players enjoying in playing in. When they can run they're good, but in the half court game they suck because Pearl isn't good at that. I compare him to a used car salesman, he'll tell you what you want to hear so you buy the car, but when you drive it home it'll breakdown on you. I think he's done a good job selling people and getting them excited about Tennessee bball, which is great, but it's just like the complaints about Fulmer.....he's a good recruiter, but doesn't do a good job teaching these guys once he gets them in. Like I said, I've seen him "coaching" players in practice and the man just isn't good at the X's and O's.

I've been to several practices here at UT and I think he is pretty good at X & O bball. So what does that mean?

That seems like a contradictory statement.

I didn't want Obama to be the President either, but I'll still support him as the president of my country. Same with Pearl.

UTCVol....No, it means that I support the basketball team and its players, but not Pearl. I don't support Pearl because I know what type of person he is. I'm sure most high profile coaches are assholes, but I don't know other coaches like I know Bruce, so I have only my experience with him to speak on. BTW, I too didn't vote for Obama, but will always support our President. Talking Bruce Pearl and Obama is like talking apples and oranges. UT orange that is ;)

I understand what you are saying. But here is a tip...they are all ego driven salesmen. That's what makes them great. Can you imagine a passive, laid back basketball coach?

I will take his winning percentage anyday over that of Buzz's, who is a really good guy.

No, I'm saying Pearl is a better coach than Peterson and he turned Peterson's players into good players and a good team. Pearl can recruit and he can coach. He will turn it around.

Buzz Peterson is, was, and always will be a sanctimonious douchebag. The idea he is a "good guy" is one of the biggest frauds ever perpetrated by the UTAD.

So how do you explain Bruce coming in and turning around a team that had the same players on it when Peterson was there? That sounds a lot like coaching to me.

Tennchamp.....Bruce brought his fast paced and pressing defense style in and if you couple that with good athletes it can = wins. I'm just not sure he can keep it going. What do I know though? He's making the big bucks at TN and I'm not, so there ya go.
