ZagsBlog.com – Hurley Says Fontan Should Stay at Fordham; St. Ben’s to Play for National Title

Zagoria is endorsed by Hurley.

Zagoria also said that Tobias Harris was definitely not coming to TN.

Bruce Pearl in NY area is going to do much better than people think.

Hurley wanted Fontan to stay at Fordham. The glacier could be guys like Air Jamaica not just guys from Hurley's program.

This. Thinking St. Anthony's on the one hand is too broad and on the other too narrow a thought on the impact FWIW.

Tennessee's not going to start pulling a bunch of St. Anthony's guys. The Hurleys like Pearl only slightly more than I do.

He may get his fair share. It might not be as easy as some think to keep those guys up there if we are one of the few top 25 programs pursuing them.

I really like this guys style of play. I hope Pearl gives him a scholly for sure...this guy is better than maze and goins already. Just watch the video

He was already offered a scholly by UT so hopefully we smoke USC and he signs quickly.

Something interesting I noticed. He plans on visiting USC on the 18th with us there on the 19th.

I like this line of thinking!

Kevin O'Neill screaming and cursing at me to grind it out and play slow ball or Bruce Pearl winning a ton and putting me in the middle of tons of talent and telling me to press and take open shots and run out and dunk my steals.

This is really weak.

I have been to practices of O'Neill, never Pearl but I have heard Pearl cursing and I never said he did not.

Getting cussed out by a guy who is presiding over a team that sucks and plays an ugly and boring brand of basketball is not the same thing as getting yelled at to run harder when you love running.

Lets put it this way, if Pearl makes the improvement I want in running set plays, it would lead to the type of instruction that frustrates a guy who would rather be on an And 1 team than play organized basketball. At this point one of the reasons why I think many of us are frustrated is that Pearl is very much a players coach.

It should make an easy decision for the kid is all I am saying. Although USC does have $$$

USC is having a pretty tough time at the PG situation as well so I'm sure he'd be a nice pick up for them the same as us. That's why I think it's important to beat 'em down in their gym and have him come back to Knoxville for our visit.

What do you mean? John Chaney's system and temperment kept him from ever having great guards. Oh, wait.

The HOF coach example!

Classic.

Bruce Pearl sucks, he has not approached the level of wins of Wooden or Adolph Rupp.

Kevin O'Neill is no Chaney. He is a coach UT fired because it is boring and awful to watch his crap brand of basketball. He is not coming back and Mike Hamilton is too smart to bring in any coach who uses a system that painful to watch.

By all means, keep us enlightened then.

You have any idea what I think about Ramar?

Don't care. I just care about who this PG is. Anything else contained within these threads, including re-re-rehashed personal feelings is inconsequential to me....

Odd that KOs recruiting was exceptional.

Bottom line, KO was coaching to his team her. His only prayer while here was slow down and play hardcore D. He had nobody that could score consistently, or inconsistently for that matter. Resurrecting the dead is tough.

BPV, do you stand by that statement? Arizona had no one who could score when he coached them? USC has no one who can score now?

I think eventually it has to catch up with you that you get great players and produce nothing. There is a coach down in Atlanta in yellow and black who defies that seemingly every year though.

Saying USC is "having a pretty tough time at the PG situation" is akin to saying Afghanistan is having a pretty tough time at the "stuff getting blown up situation."

Can you imagine Pearl inheriting Hamer, et al and trying to press and run? That would have been a sight to behold.

Jurick seemed like he fit the system almost as badly as Hamer.

Now that I see Pearl making headway with these talented guys, I believe more and more that UT just was not making any headway with good/great players under Pearl years 1-3. We would call and work and try and be ignored. We ended up with Ramar because we could not attract a higher quality guy.

I think the talent level in 2012 will be significantly better than now. I also think Pearl would suck in the NBA. I am hoping he stays at UT for the next 20 years, and I am hoping when he has a slightly more athletic J Smith, C Lofton backcourt duo to press and play defense alongside a very talented frontcourt that we will make Final 4s.

This Fontan guy is not the solution to any perceived problem.

His stats: 35.6 mpg, 35% FG, 4.2 AST, 3.4 TO, 15 PPG (AT FORDHAM!)

Maze/Goins: 38.9 mpg, 42% FG, 6.5 AST, 3.0 TO, 14.1 PPG

Maze and Goins can handle the PG position and this season will show that, starting with the game tonight...
