The title of the Thread paints with a broad brush but stay with me....

Pearl screwed up badly. Pearl got punished. The punishment was severe. Lets all hope that this is the end of the story.

Having said that, what seems odd to me is that the Kiffin Krew continuously told us even after Lane fled for USC that character doesn't matter. Its all about Wins. Its all about five star recruits. Its all about black jerseys and not caring what the college football world thinks. It all about some silly adolescent adrenaline rush that comes from saying Urban Meyer's name in press conferences. Its all about ripping our shirts off and becoming the next Reggie Bush.

Derek Dooley has even been suffeciently poked fun at on these very boards for emphasizing character.

Those same VN Members have now come crawling out of everywhere to become the Character Police and try to bury Pearl. Pearl screwed up. He has provided enough results on the court that he has earned job security. What he did was not right. But if you want to fire Pearl over this then don't tell me that Kiffin's poor character shouldn't have bothered us and that Dooley's emphasis on character is misplaced.

I don't even need to read your post. The title suffices. WRONG!

Yeah I've never understood why some of those who loved Kiffin hated Pearl. Seems like a contradiction to me if they want to bring up character.

I hate Kiffin as much as the next guy, but you bringing up the "UT Wild Boys" incident made me lol

Wonder if the OP has noticed the similar trend of Kiffin haters who worship Pearl?

Certainly. And to this point Pearl has provided quite a bit that is worthy of worship, to use your verbage. Certainly far more results than Kiffin. Regardless, I am not defending Pearl's actions. Only surprised by the Kiffin Krew's reactions. If character comes second to results then why the fury over Pearls misdeed?

If it is contradictory for a Pearl hater to be a Kiffin lover, is it contradictory for a Pearl lover to be a Kiffin hater?

It seems that the inverse would be true... huh.

:shakehead:

What's the point of this? To call out fellow UT fans? Get over it.

Because there are a bunch of fans who didn't even know that UT put a men's bball team on the court until 2005 that are mad that it's possible Pearl isn't the basketball messiah they think they is and can't face reality because others realized that a long time ago.

I'm not a Pearl lover or hater.

I could respect Kiffin because I knew he was a liar and a cheat, but he never tried to convince me otherwise.

What if we all just looked at them as state employees, and cut the emotional crap out altogether?

Sorry, but everyone has to fall into one of those two categories.

Based upon the information you supplied in the post above, we're going to classify you as a Pearl Hater/Kiffin Lover, aka negavol, aka not a true fan, aka hatvol, aka al qaeda

Before 2005 we had 15 post season tourney appearances since 1908!!!!!!!!!! (not including NIT appearances in the 70's, 80's, and 90's that are meaningless). If you want to act like he is Satan for lying then by all means make your case but to act like he isn't the reason our basketball program is a top 15 program just shows your agenda.

I think like many others you should research my stance on Pearl in my previous postings. Heck, I'll just summarize -

1. Good, not great coach.
2. Lack of execution in the half-court in previous years drives me batty.
3. Thankful for breathing life into the bball program.
4. Think his best trait is that he could sell ice to an eskimo as many on this site prove daily.
5. Don't like the fact he knowingly lied to the NCAA and don't believe for a second that his conscience got him.

That said, if hatvol and IA_Vol of all people agree there may be a lot to this, then people with a brain should take note that Pearl may have been building the program on a house of cards.
