Too many reasons why it's true.......

1. Beats #2 team in country with star player playing injured and best player thrown off team.......

2. Beats #1 team in country with half the team suspended, and best player thrown off team........

3. Develops team and talent at a joke-of-a-basketball school.......

4. 5 straight NCAA tournaments, 2 sweet sixteens......

5. averaging almost 75% winning percentage.....

6. 8-2 record against gators

7. Beat 2 teams that won NC, and one that got to finals during regular season

8. Did all this with only 1 NBA player to date.......

9. Also, he has lost Tyler Smith, Duke Crews, Ramar Smith, Josh Tabb, Negedu, and others......To lose that many key players and still put together these types of teams is simply remarkable....

I challenge anyone on this board to name any other coach who has done more with less talent.......:hi:

C.J. watson was in D-Leauge which is in America not europe. He played for the Vipers. But like the post.

"Big game Bruce". While I agree, he is fantastic...he has to get past those ugly games...i.e. losing to GA and USC...and not showing up at FLA.

Love him, and glad he's ours. Continual upgrade of talent will tell whether he is truly the best...but he's right up there.

I do agree like Hithc that calls in the local radio stations. he calls Bruce the TOTAL PACKAGE! Bruce can motivate, recruit gameplan and sell the program nationally. I like his humility too. he said early on its tough to be Bruce Pearl. He said how would you like to pull up to a top recruits house right has Coaches Kryzewski or Roy williams just left? He finished with what coach are you going to sign with? lol

No offense to the OP but this fan base is starting to look like the most fair weather, manic depressive fan base in the country. After every loss there are 50 threads about how the players suck, CBP sucks and the basketball team is doomed. After every win there are 50 threads about how CBP is the best coach ever, Bobby Maize, Scotty Hopson, etc are amazing players. This is just getting old.

yeah, I started thinking about it, and he's definitely one of the best......but yeah, GA and USC were not good......

Jim Larranaga went to a Final Four. Mark Few does a lot with less talent than most everyone in major conferences. Sean Miller certainly did a lot at Xavier with less talent than a lot of folks. I knew you weren't serious when I read "develops talent," but there are three guys who have done quite a bit with not a lot.

I like BP, but he almost let that one get away by having no one on the court that could guard Wall during the UK run------this after UT had soared to a 19 pt lead. Mcbee should have been on the bench; he is a defensive liability. I would have preferred Maze out front, with a double team on the drive. Maze has the quicks to slow Wall down. I am no coach, but how do you allow 1 player to take over a game when you have pretty much contained him up to that point?
That looked like a blowout---then an un-explainable loss.
Hopefully, Bruce can do more with more---in the next 2 years.

Valid point, but this is primarily a fringe edge. Most realize that we have a great coach that has the possibility of being the best we've ever had. Ups and downs with players is most likely commonplace among all fanbases, though. I've seen several posts from MANY fanbases slamming or criticizing players/coaches...even on their way to a championship after poor performances.

To state that the entire fanbase is fair weather or manic depressive is a bit of a stretch...don't ya think?

There is no doubt that he has had a lot of regular season success.

yeah......Chris Lofton and Juwuan Smith, and Wayne Chism never improved at all.......:eek:lol:
How much did Lofton improve? He was always a good three point shooter? Did he improve on defense?

Tyler Smith came in as a potential lottery pick after his sophomore year. He finished the first half of his senior year playing like garbage.

What about Hopson? Why is he driving us crazy? He's been here for long enough that the master developer of talent should have turned him into a start.

And what about Ramar Smith. Why did he regress?

True, but if you think about it, elite 8 or final 4 doesn't matter if you don't win the title. Only one team goes home happy. It would be nice to win one, but 20 win seasons and big crowds at TB are not to be sneezed at.

Pearl taught C-Lo to drive to the bucket. Ramar was a new convert to pg. he always played as a slashing 2 guard growing up. And Hopson seems to be turning the corner, his shot has improved since taking so much NASA like takeoff.

As far as doing "more with less", the only coach I can compare him to is Jim Valvano. NC State's run through the tournament to the national championship back in '83 was not only unexpected, but magical. The pundits keep pointing to Bruce's ability to knock off more talented teams with underwhelming talent. I can't wait to see "what Bruce can do for you" once he gets Toby Harris, Trae Golden, Kevin Ware, and the other stalwarts on board in the near future. A Bruce Pearl-coached team with NBA talent on the floor is going to be awesome. Go Vols!

re: Ramar and Tyler---can't blame BP for the hooch factor.

Ramar regressed, and Hopson hasn't been nearly what we hoped he was. And improving Buzz's guys just isn't enough to prove anything to me. He's brought in plenty of highly touted guys, and we have little to show for it.
