Pearl is the #1 Coach in College Basketball

No offense to the OP but this fan base is starting to look like the most fair weather, manic depressive fan base in the country. After every loss there are 50 threads about how the players suck, CBP sucks and the basketball team is doomed. After every win there are 50 threads about how CBP is the best coach ever, Bobby Maize, Scotty Hopson, etc are amazing players. This is just getting old.

you're more than welcome to leave then.

Ramar regressed, and Hopson hasn't been nearly what we hoped he was. And improving Buzz's guys just isn't enough to prove anything to me. He's brought in plenty of highly touted guys, and we have little to show for it.

Go back to the OP and read #9 hot shot....... :hi:

True, but if you think about it, elite 8 or final 4 doesn't matter if you don't win the title. Only one team goes home happy. It would be nice to win one, but 20 win seasons and big crowds at TB are not to be sneezed at.

Wrong. Each Final Four participant has won a post season Regional Championship, collected a nice piece of hardware, cut down the nets, and hangs a nice banner.

9. Also, he has lost Tyler Smith, Duke Crews, Ramar Smith, Josh Tabb, Negedu, and others......To lose that many key players and still put together these types of teams is simply remarkable....

What happened with Negedu sucked, and it's really sad.Other than that, I find it hard to sympathize with the losses. How come when Urban's players get arrested, it's lack of discipline, but when Tyler, Ramar, and Duke get kicked out of school, its' Pearl's bad luck. Pearl's done a lot of good for this program, but you're full of crap.

As far as doing "more with less", the only coach I can compare him to is Jim Valvano. NC State's run through the tournament to the national championship back in '83 was not only unexpected, but magical. The pundits keep pointing to Bruce's ability to knock off more talented teams with underwhelming talent. I can't wait to see "what Bruce can do for you" once he gets Toby Harris, Trae Golden, Kevin Ware, and the other stalwarts on board in the near future. A Bruce Pearl-coached team with NBA talent on the floor is going to be awesome. Go Vols!

Seriously?!? You are comparing what Pearl had done with that?!?

It's actually a divided fanbase. The side of the divide who has their argument strengthened has to let everyone know.

If Bruce Pearl was actually the number 1 coach in the country, then the fanbase simply wouldn't be divided. It's as simple as that.

Number one coach in college basketball. :eek:lol:

Anxiously waiting for HatVol to chime in on this thread.

Why does this team lose to USC and Georgia and beat Kansas and UK. This team is not always ready to play imo and plays down to their competition. That falls on coaching. However, when this team wants to play, it can play with the best of them. Bruce is doing a great job this season. The real test comes in March.

#1 coach in the country? I love Bruce, but what is college basketball all about? Post season success. I believe, one day, that Bruce will figure it out in the post season and take us deep into the tournament, but to call him the #1 coach in the country right now? LOL

this thread could get interesting... I love Bruce, but I also think coaches should be judged on what happens in March.

He is the man.

I don't believe UT fans realize how lucky we really are.

+1, I've been trying to say that for a long time. The way he's turned out around this program the last five years is simply remarkable. I'm confident that he'll figure it out in the tournament.

"Big game Bruce". While I agree, he is fantastic...he has to get past those ugly games...i.e. losing to GA and USC...and not showing up at FLA.

Love him, and glad he's ours. Continual upgrade of talent will tell whether he is truly the best...but he's right up there.

Do you honestly think it's Bruce that didn't show up at those ugly losses? All NCAA teams go thru this, because these kids aren't pros. A coach can only do so much, which for most coaches is a lot less than Pearl does. Hopefully we'll be as pumped up for the SEC and NCAA tourney games as we were for our games vs. the top 2. You know nobody wants to play us in a big game now!

And anyway, this is a celebration, britches! We are in the NCAA's for sure, 6 years in a row, every year CBP has been here! :fireworks: It's great to be a Tennessee Vol!

Divided fanbase my a**. There are about 20 fans that don't like coach pearl because he coached the maccabi games. See the "bruce pearl opinion poll" thread from a couple months ago. This fanbase is everybit of 85-90% behind coach pearl and any talk of a divided fanbase is just wishful thinking of a ver very small, albeit, very vocal minority who don't realize that prior to pearl we went through 5 coaches in 15 years and had only a handful of ncaa tournament appearances since the tournament expanded.

Calipari could not do this, He has had more talent than Pearl when he was at Memphis and now Ky and is 3-3 against Pearl

I agree with this.

Valid point, but this is primarily a fringe edge. Most realize that we have a great coach that has the possibility of being the best we've ever had. Ups and downs with players is most likely commonplace among all fanbases, though. I've seen several posts from MANY fanbases slamming or criticizing players/coaches...even on their way to a championship after poor performances.

To state that the entire fanbase is fair weather or manic depressive is a bit of a stretch...don't ya think?

I agree with your assessment. We do have some immature, pimply faced fans who bash the players and coaches. It shows that they either don't have any historical perspective or they are just negative nellies. I am sure they are in the vast minority of Vol fans. They remind me of small mice with big megaphones. They make a lot of noise without substance.

With that said, it is great to have free speech even if it is dumb and destructive to our teams.

I like Pearl, but to act like he is the greatest coach in the nation is far fetched to say the least. How many big post season games have we won? How many highly touted players have come into the program and got better or even lived up to their anticipated hype? You can be a fan and not have to kiss rear the whole time. To act like our Coach is the best in the nation is just irrational.
