I'll vote for Roy this year when Steve Fisher is retroactively given the award for the '91-'92 season.(Vol423 @ Mar 5 said:I realize that since mens basketball hasnt been a strong program at UT in the past 4 decades that UT fans arent very knowledgeable about the sport, but there is a reason that coaches dont like to play lineups full of freshmen. No matter how much hype they get coming out of high school, they generally dont set the college ranks on fire. They have a lot to learn, they turn the ball over way too much, and they aren't strong enough to battle on the boards against juniors and seniors. ANY coach that can have freshmen play as many minutes as UNC has this year and have the kind of year that theyve had deserves the National Coach of the Year award.
Minutes played by Freshmen This Year
Carolina
Tyler Hansbrough 772
Bobby Frasor 718
Marcus Ginyard 500
Danny Green 409
Mike Copeland 45
Total for UNC 2,444 minutes, (95.2 minutes per game, or 47.6% of ALL MINUTES)
UT
Ryan Childress 163
Ben Bosse 32
Justin Jackson 5
Tanner Wild 5
Total for UT 205 (11.3 minutes per game, or 5.7% of all minutes)
We haven't lost to anyone as bad as Virginia, Miami, or USC.(jakez4ut @ Mar 6 said:it's no crime if Roy gets it....he's really done a good job when you go back and read pre season stuff on UNC, compared to where they are now.....pretty impressive.
and they've been hot the past month or so, and we've been sporadic. if we win the SEC tourney, i think he still has a shot at it, but right now, based on what the whole nation saw on Saturday night, Roy gets it...right or wrong, good or bad, that'll be the way it is.
(Vol423 @ Mar 4 said:Had UT continued to win, then Pearl had a legitimate shot to contend with Roy. However, UT stumbled down the stretch. Regarding how hard Roy's year must have been, though, you need to get your facts straight. There are only 3 McDonald's All-Americans on the Tarheels this year, and all 3 of them are freshmen. Two of those 3 guys are starters because of vacancies left on the roster from players that left early to go to the NBA. The leading returning scorer from last year's team averaged just over 3 points per game last year, so YES, Roy has had a difficult season.
(Vol67 @ Mar 6 said:You have proven you know less about college basketball than football.
Roy Williams lost really good players and added a class full of really good players.
UT lost decent players and added even less.
You have no clue
