Pearl: 'Too Big'

Compared to what the coach says? Yes, I'd call it garbage. I have faith that the head basketball coach knows more than posters on a chat board.

People talk like if they were given the opportunity that they could make a team perfect. It laughable, quite frankly.

Obviously, then, our problem could be solved if only we had offered scholarships to midgets.

The idea that a 6'4" guy beat a 6'6" guy because he is shorter is laughable.

I bet Denny Crum sits back all the time and regrets having big guards like Darrell Griffith, Milt Wagner, and Lancaster Gordon. Imagine what they could have accomplished with a bunch of Tyrone Beamens instead.

I'm just curious. With all the (obvious) experts we have here....why aren't you all coaching somewhere? Anywhere?
this lameness is the hallmark of your posting career.

The reason many of us aren't coaching is that going into coaching is a pauper's existence until you make it and it's a huge risk to presume one will make it. Many people who are brighter and just as capable of motivating or coaching moved on to less risky professions because they could. Assistant coaches are simply low paid apprentices hoping like heck that they have the connections to someday become the real thing.

It's really not that hard and it's absolutely stupid to assume there aren't slews of talented people out there who can or could coach.

Are they "working like heck" too? :)

again, one need have chosen the coaching profession to be doing it. All those who did choose it were very poor waterboy types at the start. Many find that unappealing. Assuming that all the guys who know basketball are in the coaching ranks is absurd.

Coach K is a great basketball coach, but probably had about a 5% chance of ever becoming a coach after graduating West Point. He had a ton of alternatives in front of him and being a coaching apprentice was probably the least attractive.

I'm not arguing the point. I understand this is a message board and people have opinions. I just reached my quota of crap about how many of the posters can do a better job than whichever coach is currently out of favor.

Excuse the rant and have an excellent day.:hi:

While I tend to agree with MOST of your post, this statement is completely ridiculous. It's absolutely stupid to assume it isn't hard

So really don't think there are plenty of people who could be good coaches but have chosen another profession?

I believe the dyslexia bug may have bitten. While it might not be correct to assume it isn't hard, it isn't hard to assume.

There is probably a sex joke in there somewhere, but I'll leave that to others...

i don't coach bc the money sucks, and it's a pain in the butt to get a break. also the hours are ridiculous and recruiting sucks. when i played i thought about it but decided it just wasnt for me. unless UT wants to hire me as head coach, i'll get them straightened out

My statement didn't come close to suggesting such. It is a tough profession. Certainly there are those who might excel in coaching yet have chosen other professions, but not nearly as many as some might think.

I guess you've done all the research and will be publishing your book shortly?
