Penn St news only!

Seen the Westboro baptist church thing. Didn't they crash the Michael Jackson funeral as well? Ehhh these people need to be shipped to another country.

The man did everything he was required to; end of story.

And therein lies the problem. Most decent people would follow up on something like that. He basically took the "it's someone else's problem now, i did my part" approach to it.

He's dead, let him rest in peace. He's answering for what he did or did not do to a much higher authority right now.

I'm not going to throw a friend under the bus based on hearsay. He told someone and nothing came of it for years... not Paterno's fault.

It wasn't hearsay. If McQueary had come to Paterno and said "someone told me that Sandusky has been molesting children," that would be hearsay. McQueary provided a first hand account, having witnessed Sandusky's act.

Now, Paterno could have assumed McQueary was lying or mistaken, but given the accusation, that was a risk that any right-thinking person wouldn't have taken.

Joe's "non-action" is my biggest problem outside of the Sandusky actions. Oops, my bad, doesnt sit well with me and many others. He was in a position to do something about all of this and he didnt. He did a lot of good for a lot of people in that community and in that PSU family, but his inactions with something this serious will forever spoil any good he ever did.....imo

Paterno already knew or at least had known of the possibility prior to McQueary. No way I believe that he did not know Sandusky was being investigated in '99 when he suddenly retired.

Finally, if he truly did not know and did not believe McQueary, no way McQueary would still be on staff.

McQueary - "I saw Sandusky in the shower with a little boy doing inappropriate things."
Joe Pa - "I will have a secret meeting on Sunday with 'higher ups' to discuss." After meeting and with no police involvement, "we don't believe your eye witness account accusing our retired legend defensive coordinator of child molestation but are you ready to discuss the game tape."

Only thing that makes me sad with respect to Paterno's death is that he does not have to face the music and explain himself in the upcoming civil suits.

Paterno did nothing.

Edited to reflect accuracy.

Neither you nor I know what type of human being he is.

He was given an eyewitness account by the eyewitness of what appeared to be Sandusky banging a boy in the shower. Friend or not, I would make damn sure an investigation of some kind took place. Simply telling your superior isn't good enough.

Unless you directly tell Joe Paterno exactly what happened, which he didn't, it's beating around the bush. Paterno did nothing wrong and is still a fantastic human being.

How do you know that? McQueary claims he told Joe what he saw, and Paterno backed up that story. Now, his recollection of events has changed, but none of the changes fail to include the obvious fact that Sandusky was doing something inappropriate with a young boy.

How reliable is McQeary anyways? Hasn't he been caught in a couple of lies already?

His version of the events has changed a bit, but Paterno confirmed to the Grand Jury and in public interviews that McQueary reported that Sandusky was doing something inappropriate with a young boy.
