Any other big football school would do the exact same thing if they thought it would help their program. VolTwitter ran a disingenuous social media campaign to try and block a hire they didn't like, and it worked.

We ended up getting really lucky that Pruitt wasn't successful here. If he was, he never would have been turned in internally, it probably would have eventually been discovered by someone outside the program, we then would probably fight like hell to keep him but would end up having to fire him, and the penalties would have been much worse because we probably would not be all that cooperative in the ensuing NCAA investigation.

It was real easy for us to fire him and be cooperative with the investigation though, because he sucked.

Hoover High School knew about him. I’m fact, they knew enough that they did not want him as their Head Coach when he interviewed for it before jumping to the college ranks. He got a job in college to start with due to his connections.
