that guy is a defensive starter, hardly defenseless. look at the punch. he stopped the punch before he connected. i'm assuming you are talking about the one to the back.
The chop to the throat....
In the back ground you can see the wave for the fair catch.the players slow and stop and the continued
....Assault.Blatant person foul.
what i was getting at was during that play he was on the ground and blocked. thus being defenseless. now i understand the logic you have for a closed fist not being a punch, but it sure appeared to be movement of his arm to the back of a guy that was down. that very closely resembled a punching movement to me open hand or not. it was uncalled for regardless.
Why? To make an assumption. Refs are often slow getting a flag thrown.
every ref on the field was slow? they all come down at the same time. serious, it looks bad but it was legal. i coach and attend football games all season. i watch the play away from the ball as well as around the ball. this kind of play happens in almost every game that i watch. i love these type players with this kind of intensity.
You're overreacting.
chop to the throat? that's ridiculous. that was an open hand to chest. harrison is not looking behind him for the fair catch. the guys facing the returner slow up. really, have you ever played football at a level higher than pop warner?
it's thrown while he is in the act of pushing him after the play. it's two seconds after the shot to the chest.
someone was calling for him to be tossed from the game. that's just ridiculous.
i know your a steeler fan and you may coach, but the guy clearly took a swing at a guy on the ground. i understand the legality of the blocking and what your saying, but he was in the process of taking a swing at the guy. everything other than the "punch" was legal to me. yes, he caught himself from an all out punch, but he still hit the guy while he was in the motion of a punch. you can argue that it happens all the time, but in the years of my football playing i was never taught to swing at a guy while he is down. the cardinal took himself out of the play after he tried to get up and without audio i can't tell exactly when the whistle was blown to end the play. so my argument is that he punched a guy while he was down and blocked. open fist or not. without audio to tell when the whistle blew i can't definitively say when the play was over.
i am not trying to pick a fight with you, so i hope you don't feel that is the case here. i guess i just don't see the situation in the same light. yes it may be blown out of proportion, but it is still unnecessary to take a swing at a guy.
i respect your opinion, however being in the motion of a punch and then hitting with an open hand doesn't count as a punch or o-linemen would be called for that on every play. no player can take himself out of a play. until the whistle blows every player is game. if it had been a cardinal being the aggresser, i would defend him.
