I don't know how anyone is surprised by this, it's the same crapt every year. Glad we weren't a part of it.

It is absolutely fair to take into consideration a late November bad loss by a large margin. But, if you are going to consider that abysmal defensive gaffe, then you need to also consider what that same defense did the very next week. Yes, I know it was "Same Ol Vandy", and really a home game, but a shutout against an SEC opponent is a fantastic accomplishment (especially in this offensive era of football). Even if it was just Vandy, don't forget that team was on a 2 game SEC winning streak. And yes, their opponents were very subpar in the SEC too, but still SEC opponents.

The BCS still had a human element to it because part of it was made up from voting polls. Additionally, the formula was tweaked multiple times over the years because humans wanted it changed. It’s never that simple.
I agree. There is no simple solution. Adding more teams to the playoff will add several teams that do not belong and the occasional 3 loss team that catches fire at the right time and wins it. Like basketball sometimes, it may take away from the significance of the regular season a bit.
There is no foolproof solution.

“Coorigan said that the rankings outside of the top four — Ohio State is the new No. 5, ahead of Alabama and Tennessee — could still change despite the teams not playing during championship weekend.”

How is this even possible? He’s saying the committee could decide to rerank Ohio State, Alabama and Tennessee even though none of them will play another game. What does that say about their process if they can change their minds without any new data points?

This committee has zero integrity at this point. Either go by the stated criteria and stick to it or just say you’re going to do it however you see fit to get the matchups you want to see, mostly for TV ratings.

There are a lot of women on the committee?

It allows them to rearrange the rankings based on the bowl’s preferences while giving Bama and OSU a playoff opportunity. I whole heartedly believe the bowls would prefer UT over a non playoff Bama team and would not be surprised to see UT jump Bama in the next poll allowing the Vols in the Sugar Bowl (I feel certain the Sugar Bowl would prefer an energized Vol fan base over a Bama fan base who could care less about the sugar bowl)

If Utah and Clemson win this weekend, that will help our SOS. That could be the CFP committee's justification for moving us up.

The Sugar Bowl would likely rather have us and assuming this is only the difference between 5 and 6, then maybe they re-evaluate...

There are 5 instances where teams had same record with a head to head. Which one of these is not like the other??

Oregon and Oregon State had same record. Oregon had better metrics. Oregon State won head to head. Oregon State ranked 1 spot ahead

LSU and FSU had same record. LSU had better metrics. FSU won head to head. FSU ranked 1 spot ahead.

Oregon and UCLA had same record. Oregon won head to head. Oregon 1 spot ahead of UCLA.

MS State had same record as Ole Miss. Ole Miss had better metrics. Ms State won head to head. MSU ahead of Ole Miss

Tenn and Bama had same record. TN had better metrics. TN won head to head. Bama ranked 1 spot ahead of Tenn.

LSU beats Georgia, our win vs LSU looks better. Michigan loses to whatever terrible Big 10 West team they are playing (I've not even looked) and Ohio State's loss looks even worse. There are still ripples that can be felt. The committee is also political and according to how much heat they get after each week's rankings they completely change the criteria.

But yet OSU only drops to 5th makes sense

I don’t like OSU at all and I love Tennessee; however how many spots should OSU have dropped by losing their first game?

Tennessee dropped 4 spots when they lost to Georgia.

OSU lost and dropped 3 spots “only” because LSU crapped the bed.

Tennessee didn’t lose real badly however they were never competitive in that game (Georgia gsme)

OSU did lose badly however they were competitive through 3 quarters (OSU up 10-3 through 1, OSU up 20-17 at half, OSU down 20-24 after 3).

Again no OSU fan, but they shouldn’t have dropped more than 3 (because LSU lost and everyone gained a spot).

There is no doubt in my mind if the situation were flipped they would say still have bama ahead and would say well they won the head to head.
