I agree. There is no simple solution. Adding more teams to the playoff will add several teams that do not belong and the occasional 3 loss team that catches fire at the right time and wins it. Like basketball sometimes, it may take away from the significance of the regular season a bit.The BCS still had a human element to it because part of it was made up from voting polls. Additionally, the formula was tweaked multiple times over the years because humans wanted it changed. It’s never that simple.
“Coorigan said that the rankings outside of the top four — Ohio State is the new No. 5, ahead of Alabama and Tennessee — could still change despite the teams not playing during championship weekend.”
How is this even possible? He’s saying the committee could decide to rerank Ohio State, Alabama and Tennessee even though none of them will play another game. What does that say about their process if they can change their minds without any new data points?
There are a lot of women on the committee?“Coorigan said that the rankings outside of the top four — Ohio State is the new No. 5, ahead of Alabama and Tennessee — could still change despite the teams not playing during championship weekend.”

It allows them to rearrange the rankings based on the bowl’s preferences while giving Bama and OSU a playoff opportunity. I whole heartedly believe the bowls would prefer UT over a non playoff Bama team and would not be surprised to see UT jump Bama in the next poll allowing the Vols in the Sugar Bowl (I feel certain the Sugar Bowl would prefer an energized Vol fan base over a Bama fan base who could care less about the sugar bowl)“Coorigan said that the rankings outside of the top four — Ohio State is the new No. 5, ahead of Alabama and Tennessee — could still change despite the teams not playing during championship weekend.”

But yet OSU only drops to 5th makes sense
