Peterman's first half performance

Peterman appeared to have stage fright. He was going slowly through the motions, but not completely functioning as a QB. Worley gave the team a chance to win; Peterman did not. I'm sorry it happened, because we should have taken advantage of Florida's mistakes and won that game. It is also bad that Peterman now has his poor performance in Gainesville to overcome in his head and in the killing minds of all negavols.

Peterman looked like a deer in the headlights but his play, albeit an eon less than mediocre, was destined for disaster by the incompetence of our offensive line. Missed assignments, no holes for the running backs, poor pass protection, what else could they have done wrong?

All summer various commentators were preaching positively about the Vols likely having the "best offensive line" in the SEC. Even that guy who is called the head coach at Florida said that our line would be the best his team faced this year. How can so few fool so many?

The only thing good that can come from yesterday's fiasco is that it can't get any worse and improvement is just one game away.

This is exactly why a big-time team starting a redshirt freshman gets so much attention in the press; there is potential for an explosion of greatness (Manning - cannot remember if he was a redshirt, though) or complete implosion (Peterman). We tend to forget that these kids are right out of high-school, barely comparable physically or mentally to their junior and senior peers. What I wonder about is whether or not this experience destroyed him to the point that he can no longer be counted upon in the rotation, not that he showed much to count on anyway. After Worley and Peterman, there was a third option that was not selected because the coaches thought he was just not good enough. Now THAT is scary.

He got up early in the morning and worked harder than anyone to get a chance.. Bruin said in another forum that he just wanted to cry for him. I agree. From what Juwuan James said, he obviously took it hard.

@JawuanJames70: Y'all be easy on my QB. Not to many of you guys have had to start as a freshman in the SEC. Well be ok #VFL

:good!:

While I think "to Dooley" should be a verb, the blame for Peterman's performance is squarely on the new coaching staff.

Starting the RS freshman QB in the Swamp was knee-jerk; if there were a real QB debate, they would have exchanged reps against Austin Peay and WKU to determine who was the "gamer". Not taking him out after two turnovers because it might affect his "confidence" resulted in a snowball avalanche which no doubt has hammered his confidence.

What was obvious is the things they had identified in Spring and Camp were absolutely correct. Peterman was put in a no-win situation - face the toughest defense on the road and hope you are the next Peyton Manning in Orange.

Let's hope Butch and Co are starting to get it as a staff in Big Time Football.

I'm not sure I've ever see a more comical QB play in over 40+ years of watching the Vols.....this tops Ainge's toss to the lineman a few years back.
