Petrino back at Louisville? LOLOLOL! He is haaaated in Louisville. IIRC, he was talking to Auburn? during the halftime of his last bowlgame while he was coaching at Louisville. No way. They haaaaate him.

If you think your school is going to spend $2.5 million to get him, you're crazy.

He's disliked by fans there because he left for Arkansas. Big money people up there are still big fans. The Papa Johns guy is apparently a good friend of his.

No, he would never be offered the job at UK.

Petrino left for the Falcons after UL. Then to Arkansas. He's bedhopping like they should be keeping score.

Trust me. He is hated.

1.5 Mill will get BP and IF UK can get him they'd be stupid if they didn't. And fans would forget all his transgressions if he put on the blue. Especially after he started winning.
Besides y'all are already into swapping coaches.

I don't see UK spending the money for Petrino. Despite his issues, he'll still command a million more a year than UK is willing to pay.

If things go south in Gainesville, Foley will go get Charlie Strong and I could see Petrino back at Louisville.

No way in hell Petrino ever coaches at Louisville again.

Mitch HATES Petrino - this will never happen.

He may hate him but he is the best hire UK could hope for. And the ONLY reason Petrino would take the UK job is because of his past. If UK turns him down if they can get him... They are dumber than I thought. He would be the best coach UK has had in decades.

Unfortunately, the brightest spot in the recent and near-future history of UK football is going to be last years' snoozer over UT. I watched Pitt get embarrassed by Cincy last night, and it's a toss-up as to which team is worse: Pitt or UK. In any event, they're both bad.

UK always has been...remains...and most likely always will be a basketball school. The only team that can be counted on to do well in Commonwealth Stadium is UK's opponent.

The winner here is Vanderbilt, who has passed off the nametag that reads "SEC Opossum" to UK.

UK will get a new head coach. And then another one. And then another one.....ad nauseum. It took UT roughly four years to climb out of the hole. Penn State will be back in the Top 25 before UK becomes a relevant program again. Just telling it like it is.

That's probably why a couple of UK fans hang around this board so much...no sense wasting their time on a UK fan blog.

Go Vols.

Well, there could be worse things than having a top notch basketball team.

I want a top notch football team, too. But Lietrino/Petrinocchio/Pigtrino is not an option for UK.

Let's hope that your reasoning, which is well-founded, holds up with those who would trade the future of UK athletics for a "fast winner".

If I'm UK, I'm looking for a rising young talent in the FCS ranks. A coordinator or head coach who has taken a team and built it into a solid program with recruiting, teaching, player development, and team / game management. They're out there, and this is UK's best move. Hiring a "retread", or a coach with obvious character issues, is simply renewing the cycle of disappointment. You need new blood, and clean blood.

Coming from the FCS ranks, the new coach will have an idea of how to recruit mid-level talent. That's where you start. Bonus points for a guy who comes from the "run the ball, and stop the run" school of thought. That saves you a year in your rebuilding process.

Nothing against Joker, but he ain't the answer. You need to clean house; start over; and weather a couple of 3 or 4 win seasons while your new coach builds his house.

You're a class act, McCat. Hate to see you suffer through year after year of being disappointed by a football team that probably doesn't deserve your loyalty. Been there, done that.

You are welcome here. Go buy you a Vols t-shirt, and enjoy the re-emergence of UT football. We can find room for you in Neyland Stadium.

Until UK invests significant, and by significant I mean millions of dollars into facility upgrades, no coach will have sustained success. IMO we were luck with Brooks because he knew he was at the end of his career, and rode it out. With UK's current status, If a young coach comes in that can recruit well enough to make 3 straight bowls at UK, then he is on to bigger and better things and it is back to the drawing board.

"Hoping" to get a coach that can recruit mid level talent and succeed for a short period is just a band-aid that hides the truth, which is it gets old trying to pitch "UK basketball" to 4 and 5 star football recruits.

I think they key to UK ever being in the conversation in the SEC is to run a triple option or back to the Air Raid, some sort of gimmick. We're not going to recruit kids who can run the ball and play defense - not SEC caliber anyway.

UK is the only school in the SEC that can not issue bonds without the approval of the state senate and David Williams is shutting them out. They can't pay for upgrades any other way - Williams needs to become part of the solution.

David is from my hometown, played several rounds of golf with him. He is a pretty big Cats fan (hoops), I've used his season tix several times. But quite frankly he doesn't give 2 shats about Kentucky football.

:) thanks for the kind words, but I've been a sucker for this team since the 70s. Too late to change horses.

I'm of the opinion too that you need to be able to pound the ball and stop the run. The issue is that it takes talent to do both. UK had arguably the best recruiter in the country at UK (Tee Martin) who was pulling in top 25 classes. He goes to USC and pulls in a top recruiting class in just a few months. There is something about elite athletes wanting to play for super powers. They don't want to play for perennial losers.

Yes. Facility upgrades are needed. Brooks pleaded for a recruiting room the whole time he was here and never got it. An elite coach just isn't coming. Mike Leach might have been the answer last year, but too late for that.

Yeah, I disagree. Winning in the SEC starts and stops with the run game and run defense. Anything beyond that is just style points. I enjoyed seeing UK score points with Mumme, but what's the fun of scoring 40 when you give up 60?

I listened to him take Matt Jones to school this last summer. He plays the politician/lawyer card well.

No doubt Petrino will get to a smaller school eventually. But no way he gets back to top conferences anytime soon.
