Peyton Gives Butch Huge Endorsment!!!!

Again, to go through the trouble of point out "hair splitting" differences is akin to breaking down each word of the Gruden interview on Mike & Mike.

That's what a fan is. Fan was always short for fanatic. We are crazy about the vols, and that's why we do our crazy things here. You've seen the quotes, and I just see a different tone of Peyton in all of them

Weren't you the one talking about the progression of Manning's excitement with our last 3 coaches?

If that's the middle ground, holy crap! :loco:

"I think it's an exciting time for Tennessee football, I really do," Manning said. "People need to stay committed to it and stay patient with it. It doesn't happen overnight. But I sure like what I've heard the last two days."
There's some more talk about the progression of Manning's excitement. (He really does!)

Again, to go through the trouble of point out "hair splitting" differences is akin to breaking down each word of the Gruden interview on Mike & Mike.

I'll ask another way. When the point in question is about what Manning said, what would you do? Quote Shakespeare and call it a day? Or go back to what Manning actually said?

Again, is any of this going to matter when UT travels to Oregon, UF, and Bama? NO!

Manning isn't reading his answer verbatim from a cue-card. If you're going to say his answers pertaining to Kiffin, Dooley, and Jones are COMPLETELY different, then that's your opinion and you're welcome to it. I disagree and think they are similar.

Please show any quote from this thread that says they will. What you will see is that some people n here were encouraged that PM seems impressed with CBJ. Since he has more insight into the program than we do, and many respect his opinions, it proves (for some) to be a ray of sunshine, in a dark period, during the offseason when there isn't much more to discuss.

Would you prefer they shut the board down until the first game? My vote on that would be "no".

I'm not interested in whether they were verbatim, and readily agree to some similarities. You are misrepresenting my point, probably because you seem to have missed the greater context of the argument, thus missed the point. (That isn't intended as an insult, btw.)

The point being made was an inference that you can't read anything into PM's quotes because he is always going to respond the same way. I took issue with that assertion. Others took issue with my taking issue, and again pushed the misinformation.

Another brief recap of PM's responses:

LK-- "Wait and ask me two years from now."

Now, if you can't see the extreme differences between that and:

CBJ -- "He has it all mapped out." "He's the kind of guy we want at UT." "...truly inspiring..." "I think (the CBJ era) is a really exciting time at Tennessee. I really do." etc...

The question is not about any perceived similarities. It's about the VAST differences, which are not opinion, but fact.

As an aside... I only made such a big deal of it in response. I was content to post a one sentence disagreement with the assertion until the fiction-writers pushed back. Then I gave ample evidence that they are wrong and need to stop pushing misinformation. IMHO, giving evidence to prove what you say is a better way of presenting yourself.

See what happens when you simply take snippets from an article? Here's the rest of the quote:

"My answer now is ask me in two years. I'll tell you how we did in the draft. I think it's kind of that same way (with Kiffin)."

Manning met with Kiffin later in the afternoon. It was the second time Kiffin and Manning have met in person since Kiffin was hired.

Manning also worked out with current UT players.

"To be fair to Coach Kiffin, everybody is making a judgment either one way or the other already," Manning said. "I think we need to let Tennessee play some games this year and maybe not just necessarily this year. I know it's a long offseason and it's more time to talk and analyze.

"I'm trying to get to know Lane. I can tell from people I talk to how hard his staff works and how hard the players are working. They're excited, which is good. Everybody should be excited during this time. It takes some time to develop."

A little different than "Wait and ask me 2 years from now."

And a snippet from the Jones article:

"I think it's an exciting time for Tennessee football, I really do," Manning said. "People need to stay committed to it and stay patient with it. It doesn't happen overnight. But I sure like what I've heard the last two days."

I'll thank you to see post number 75. I didn't take snippets.

No. Not really. Heck, go re-read the article. Except for the parts where he says everyone needs to wait on judgment, and he'll give one in a couple of years, I really can't find much in there where PM comments on Kiffin at all! lol

He said, "To be fair to Coach Kiffin..." we need to see TN play a few games.

He said, "I'm trying to get to know Lane." "I can tell from people I talk to how hard his staff works..." lol

He says that the staff and the players are excited. He says it should be an exciting time.

Show me where PM says of LK, anything approaching what he said of CBJ.

(Again: Show me anywhere in that entire post that PM even commented on LK. Hint: his only references to LK were:

Wait to judge until we see his product.

I'm still trying to get to know him.

I hear his staff and players work hard.

They are excited.

Oooohhhh... Ringing endorsements!)

But that's my whole point. If PM was going to just blindly blather about a HFC, just because it was UT's new HFC, he would have done it here. He obviously didn't. Obviously, of course, to anyone who reads the quotes in an objective manner.

And to speak to your edit:

I already mentioned the similarities. the similarities are not what's in question. The differences are. Even in your comparisons, you seriously don't see the differences? Really?!

On LK: They're excited. Everybody should be.

On CBJ: I think it's an exciting time. I really do.

Translation. PM parroted that they are excited. For CBJ, he spoke of his own excitement-- then he reinforced it.

Bottom line: On CLK, PM was noncommittal. On CBJ, he is impressed and excited.

Through all the similarities, those differences prove that PM doesn't "say the same thing" about every hire.

"He's got it all mapped out," the Denver Broncos quarterback said. "I like his slogans, his philosophies, the things that he believes in. He's really preaching accountability to his players. It seems like the players have really bought in. ...

Butch gets it, and Manning sees that he gets it.

It's incredible to think how far CBJ is going to take us next year, and the years to come. I cannot be more fired up!!!

Peyton Manning thinks Butch Jones will turn Vols around | Detroit Free Press | freep.com

I have A lot of respect for Peyton Manning. I think CBJ is A good coach. Does anyone really think A UT alum would say they didn't think they hired the right guy? Peyton gave the politically correct answer, and those don't mean much!

To be fair Peyton is and has been a class act and he was coached by Fulmer. There is absolutely no way he could or would come out balls to the wall for the coach that replaced his friend and former head coach. He hedged his comments somewhat on Kiffin (as he should) considering the fact his old coach was the one that was canned to create the opportunity for CLK. He has always spoken positively about the Tennessee coaches.
