Peyton Lewis Seems Good

Nico's main problems right now are an Oline that can't create a pocket and Nico's inability to keep looking downfield when he scrambles. He can develop the ability to look downfield easy. We just need to get him an Oline and more experience.
Doesn't really matter. He's got Kirk Cousins money already as a RSF. Good payday even if you never deliver. NIL money will forever dictate the decisions of a HC on who starts and who rides. The only HC that had the clout and balls to buck that truth retired.

Really impressed by his size and speed. Hopefully he turns into a beast. What is everyone’s thoughts on the play calling offensively last night ? I do believe we need some WRs that can catch the ball like Tillman used to and get open that’s important. But much much time before next season starts sadly.
Lewis earned some stripes in that game. One of the few I saw true effort from.

Brazzle was open. In the end zone. Unobstructed momentum changing TD off the shoulder pads. We need guys that can actually catch the ball. And I hope Nico improves more this off-season than he did over hte season. Which was realtively flat improvement-wise. Won't ever really know until we get a respectable receiver corp.
i agree with what you are saying on Nico but this OSU game he did show a running toughness getting needed 1st downs. That can take you to the top if you can mix in getting the ball out and in catchable space and the WRs will have to win those 50/50 balls. If Nico & WRs can get on the same page and he brings ability to make yardage with his feet he could have a 2025 year like J Daniels at LSU. We can hope.

Thornton played most of the year injured and Matthews couldn’t crack the lineup to show, that’s a problem. Matthews showed promise but he was not close or in the conversation to Hyatt 2022.
Hyatt wasn't close to Hyatt until 2022 as I remember.

Fully acknowledge his toughness running Saturday night. And quite effectively. Lack of passing IMo is about 50/50 between him and the receivers. At some point I was hoping to see Merklinger get the 4th quarter. We failed to capitalize on anything in the 3rd quarter that would have actually put us in that game. Game was over at 15:00 of the 4th. Ddin't see any gain in sending Nico back out. Huge risk of injury. He took some big time shots all night.

Seems we got speed. So, we have bad route schemes or lack of desire. And no skill to get open.
We don’t have over the top speed. We have a bunch of 2’s and 3’s. Decent speed but no Justin Hunter or Hyatt that can get two to three steps of separation.

If we do have it, seems the pecking order was more important.

I agree with the rest of your post, but I've read this 3 times and I'm struggling to understand what you're trying to say. I'm saying Matthews should transfer because it must suck to be a WR in our new offense.

I used Smith being matched up on our LBs as an example of what good offensive coordinating looks like. That was also a failure by our defense. Tim Banks should have called a timeout before Howard threw that interception in the end zone. We are lucky that Howard threw the ball off Carter's back. That play, if executed properly, should have resulted in Ohio's lead growing to 28-0. But again, it's also an example of an OC creating a good matchup for his best player.

I'm not sure what you're talking about with "OL failures" comment but regardless of who is to blame, our offense was not WR friendly in 2024. If I'm a 5-star receiver, unless the coaches show me how things will be different in 2025, I'm out.
Do you know what our new offense is? Please share if you do? It is not going to be the one we saw in CJH's first year or second year or third year with a RS Freshman QB. The game is 10 times faster than what we played this year.
OL failures=getting to the QB. Set Formation. NICO has yet to find and use his skill set this year because failures. Expect to run the ball to help balance. Tell me who are the playmakers we have on this team, offensively. WR go to guy? TE. You need 7 yards and passing who was the one that made it happen in the group. We did not play to our strength and like most FR, NICO held the ball because of a lack of processing speed. No quick tempo. Will we get there? More than likely. 1st year QB probably not.
We got lucky with the schedule, we digressed as the season progressed. The lights never went on they just flickered. I expected a 8-4 to 9-3 season, we exceeded that but we got worse as the season progressed due to injury and resting on our laurels.
You are never as good as you think you are but you are never as bad as someone else thinks you are. That is this season's predicament.
