Peyton's Poorest Decision

Yeah I love the Titans fans that dis me for following Peyton....pulling for the Colts and now Denver. I never had a real favorite pro team growing up. Was a VFL in college football but I would pull for the underdog teams mainly in the NFL on Sundays....especially in the Super Bowl. Hell I pulled for the Titans in their glory days with McNair and George....except when they played Peyton. I was at U.T. when Manning was...I'm a month younger than him....and watched nearly every home game he ever played in Neyland....along with multiple road trips for away games. That is why I am a fan of his and followed him from his rookie season on. We came up at the same time...and it began my fandom if you will.

People pull for teams for strange reasons all the time. In high school...there was a bunch of Dolphins fans only because of Marino's success. For some pulling for a great player to succeed will make you pull for his team...they go hand in hand....just like the 49er's fans I knew that became Chiefs fans when Montana was showed the door.

I have no idea who I will pull for when Peyton retires...maybe it will be the Titans...but they were the Oilers to me when they moved here...and I had more ties and loyalty to Manning then at that time then the former Houston left overs that moved to Nashville in 1997. That is what they seemed like to me back then.

I still can't get into the NFL because growing up there wasnt a team here. If anything I was a 49ers fan for a time, and I've always bled orange.

Yeah I feel you man. If Manning had never been great and washed out like Shuler...hell I would be right there with you bro

San Francisco really didn't want him, so no he couldn't have signed there.

Seattle's another story, but I don't think anyone at that point knew they'd be near this good.

let me try to explain it this way.....

when you think of a peyton manning football team what adjectives come to mind?

I disagree that playing his style makes a team less physical. They ran the ball very most of his years in Indy. People just assume if you're not in the I running power all game, that you're soft.

Doesn't matter. Your pathetic attempt to denigrate Peyton is pretty obvious. Is it because your jealous that he has accomplished more than any QB from UF can ever hope to?

I am not denigrating Peyton. I am making what I think is a valid point. You don't want to buy it that's fine.

But, I don't care what team you want to look at in the past or present, teams with playstation offenses are not physical.

If you have equal teams and one is a physical team and one is a finesse team, the physical team usually wins.

It's hard for a team running that offense in practice to develop a physical mentality offensively or defensively.

Those teams get by people who they way more talented than and lose when an equally talented team smacks them in the mouth.

The 49ers of the 80's are as close to a finesse team that had success, but they weren't finesse. All you have to do is look at joe Montana's passing stats and compare them to Marino and you will see that the 49ers were not a pass happy bunch.

IMO, the style of play of that offense lends itself to eventual failure. I don't care who is running it. Shotgun draws are not a real running game.

By the way, if you don't believe me ask Drew Brees

Brees has had over 600 pass attempts each season in the last seven, except 1.

Guess which year the saints won the super bowl

During that season, he had over 100 less pass attempts than any other season

Since we only lost to Seahawks by 7 at their stadium and we never really had a qb all year. Imagine Peyton a Titan with 2000 yard rusher CJ in the backfield .Unstoppable ! He would have his second super bowl ring by now. Plus the Bronco fans are not so fickle like the Bronco fans. Just saying.

PEYTON and Co. beat the "T" off of the name Titan 51-28.....your Nashville pro team is now the Tennessee Itans.

Epic Fail :eek:lol:

Yes, but at least in 2 years he'll still have a team to root for. You'll be too busy probably buying a Chiefs jersey to root for Eric Berry.

Peyton is obviously a smart QB, BUT he did not make a smart decision in signing with Denver!!!! He could have signed with SF or SEA, but he went for the glamorous offense team instead of choosing a team that had the Defense to win a Super Bowl. If he would have signed with SF, we would probably be talking about Peyton Manning, a 3 time Super Bowl winner.

You are serious??? When Bud Adams was running the show, the Titans were one of the worse run organizations in the entire NFL.

Now that someone else is running the show and a new coaching staff is in place, it may be a different story.

Think about this! Do you really think that an owner can be a hands-off owner and have people run the organization when he is in Houston and the team is in Tennessee?

The organization in Tennessee was probably keeping many secrets from Bud because he was not in Tennessee to see what was actually going on.

Also, the Titans LOVE to stick with "family" They seldom go outside of the "family" to get new coaching staffs.
Fisher, Munchek, Matthews, etc. etc.

Also, look at how Bud Adams treated Steve McNair! Bud didn't want to give Steve $8,000,000 per season, so Steve was going to sit out. Someone in the organization convinced Bud to pay him, "the face of the francise" the $8,000,000 per season.

Well, Steve got the $8,000,000 the first season but that was it. In the other seasons, Bud manipulated Steve in to giving up some of his money so Bud could re sign Eddie, Rolle, etc. etc. At the back end of the contract, Bud was supposed to give Steve the money back. Well, when Steve was near the end of his contract, Bud locked him out of the facility.

Steve had to go to the NFL Players Committee in order to force Bud to re pay him that money.

Is that the type of organization that you, as a Hall of Fame q.b would want to play for????????????

Yes, every time I read 99gator's posts, it's plain as day he's eaten up with jealousy over Peyton Manning having so much success in the NFL.

It trumps everything Florida has accomplished in college football. The National championships, the SEC championships, the Heisman Trophy winners, and beating us a decade straight.

Pro football sucks. None of the players on the titans are actually from Nashville or Tennessee. They have no loyalty to the team they play for other than money.

It's mercenary football that is pointless other than financially enriching the owners of these franchises that have no function other than providing over priced entertainment. It's the WWF...same ****.

It's not your city---it's some dudes business, and idiots have pride in an NFL team? You'd find it just as idiotic if someone got super excited over Wal-mart vs Target.

Exactly. Peyton had to choose a team he thought would give him the best shot at winning the SB. The Titans would not have come close even with Peyton.

Bull.

Peyton is the reason the Broncos were even any good to begin with.

Simply put... I picked the Seahawks to win it all prior to the season and half way through, I picked the Broncos to go the Super Bowl because of Peyton's success. I knew the Chiefs were overhyped garbage.

I stuck with the Seahawks in the Super Bowl over the Broncos. I barely even followed the NFL this season but had it dissected by week 8. Peyton Manning was the only reason the Broncos went to the Super Bowl and he would have taken the Titans there too.
