You must have really hated when Pearl signed Melvin Goins. That dude might be 5'11" in heels.

Yeah I stood beside him a few times when he was wearing his bball shoes and I was still taller than him. I'm may not even be 5'11, but if I am, I'm not a shade over that.

But judging by some people's eye-ball measurements, I could pass for 6'2 hahaha.

Seems very mediocre. Very undersized at 6' I would feel better if he were 6'2" or 6'3". If he has exceptional quickness he may be ok. Otherwise hes not going to be the kind of player we need to compete for SEC championships.
Once again he is still a Junior, has time to grow.

Kemba Walker laughs at you.

"The 6-foot Landry, who attends Bob Jones High School and is rated as a three-star prospect by Rivals.com, chose UT over Vanderbilt, Alabama, Auburn, Texas A&M and Texas Tech."- govolsxtra.com

Sounded like offers to me.
that's 4 sec teams 5 including us

Not SEC but add Baylor and Marquette to the list.
Found this on him:
He's a 6-foot 2013 PG who's last known AAU team was the Houston Hoops. Going off a quick look at his Twitter feed/page, he is now in Alabama and plays on the Alabama Challenge, same team as 2013 UA target Jimmie Taylor and 2012 Miss. State commit and Carver-Montgomery star Craig Sword. From what I can gather, he spent most of the summer with the Challenge, so that's plenty of face time with CAG watching. He is not rated by any service currently, but that may change in the next month or so.

As a player, the best one word description of Landry is quick. Quick decisions, quick feet, quick hands. Lock down defender who loves to play defense and to play the game, truthfully. He's pesky as a defender, and what he lacks in range, he makes up for with his feet. He always seems one step ahead when he gets the ball and definitely already has the look of a CAG player in that once the balls goes through the net, Landry is already facing up on his man. Like I said, he's a 2013 guy, but was playing on the U17 squad, so he can play at a high level.

Coach talks Landry commitment
Landry had drawn interest from other SEC schools like Alabama, Vanderbilt and Georgia. He is averaging approximately eight points per game through four games this season after averaging 12.3 points and 3.5 assists per game last year as a sophomore.
"He's not shooting that much," Petty said. "He's a great point guard and sees the floor extremely well. He's a great defender, too.

Alabama, Vandy, Georgia and our new pals in Texas....sounds like 4 to me.

Rivals, from October 1st...

"A dominant on-the-ball defender, Landry was pretty impressive on the offensive end. He has a composed pace to his game, can get to the rim, sees the court and has a reliable outside shot."

Don't think a 6 foot guard will get to the rim very often in the SEC. Most big men would block his shot without leaving their feet.

How many times have you seen him play? What else can you tell us about him?

Thanks!!

All I said is that 6'1' is small for a guard unless he is really quick. Seems apparent to me that undersized players must have other qualitys speed or great shooting touch for instance to be successful in the SEC. That my opinion. Don't be an idiot.

I'm the idiot, yet you're the one making assumptions about a player you've never seen before.

OK

Like I said at that size he needs to be really quick. The desire to play lockdown defense is a great attribute in young players, most are more concerned with offense. It would be nice if he was a great outside shooter too.

OK

You think that I must have seen him play in order to know that 6'1" (and that probably means he is 5'11") is undersized in the SEC. Yes that is an idiotic comment.
I am not saying he is not a good player I merely commented on his size and the fact he is rated a 3 star prospect which is mediocre for an SEC recruit. There were 5 or 6 comments on my simple statement that were idiotic. It is amusing how, according to the posters on this forum, every player that UT recruits is fantastic until he gets here and plays in a game than the same people who praised him so highly are calling for his head. LOL. If the kid is 6'1", really quick, has excellent ball handling skills and ability to see the court and deliver the ball to scorers, and is a lock down defensive player one would expect him to be rated a little higher. Keep in mind the words of the wizard of Westwood, offense wins games, defense wins championships. Also another paraphrase from the same source, speed is most important in a player size is second most important. Have a wonderful day.:birgits_giggle:

My boy Bruce took this program to heights which it will never see again in my lifetime. It is amazing how people who claim to be UT fans dispise the best coach in the history of UT basketball. In my opinion there is something really missing in such persons. Perhaps they didn't set through 40 years of mediocre coaches. Or perhaps they have some sort of inferiorty complex to the Kentuckys, North Carolina, etc. Or perhaps they just have a screw missing.

He was recruited by most SEC schools, had two offers in Vandy and Alabama (not bad basketball schools at the moment), and was being heavily recruited by Georgetown. All before his junior year. The reason he isn't highly rated is because he isn't a big time scorer, yet his coach said he can take over when he needs to, but knows his job as a PG. He's not a mediocre prospect as you said.

Kemba, Trae, Craft, D.J Augustin, Trevor Relford, Ty Lawson, and Peyton Siva. All disagree.

Yes, those that think that it is possible for the program to maintain or improve are the ones that aren't true fans. Good call, genius
