Phil Steele: Most improved teams in 2014

I agree. My only concern is will a 6-6 team keep us up with the big boys in recruiting?

Butch can recruit period! I don't think it matters what the record is. Certainly, if we start having 12-1 seasons it will be easier, but Butch can get them to come to Knoxville even when 5-7 has been the norm.

Wow. Someone else believes...

NCAAF Most improved teams for 2014 - ESPN

8. TENNESSEE
In the past three years, the Volunteers are 4-20 in SEC play. This year's squad has much more experience at the skill positions than last year but remarkably has zero returning starters on the offensive and defensive lines. While they play my No. 2 toughest schedule in the country, those inexperienced lines will have more experience come November, when, if they sweep the likes of Kentucky, Missouri and Vanderbilt in their final three games, they will be bowling for the first time since 2010.

What Butch is doing reminds me of a train slowly getting going. You can hear the wheels beginning to turn. chugga chugga chugga. A couple of more good classes and we'll be back.

I think I can, I think I can, I think I can...I know I can I know I can I know I can!!!

we have a O line. they arent as bad as you think. now the depth is if we dont stay healthy. The Old DL was never any good anyway

It's 2010-2011 all over again with the o line. I'm not saying they aren't talented, but experience goes a long way on a sec line

4-20 the last 3 years in SEC play.......my oh my.
Last 4 years:
Alabama 0-4
UF 0-4
UGA 0-4
Mizz 0-2
LSU 0-2
Arkansas 0-2
Auburn 0-1
USC 1-3
Oregon 0-2
Out of these games alone every team has at least 1 Division Championship and/or multiple 11 win seasons, including 3 national champions and 3 more title game losers.

No other team nationally could likely compete with scheduling like this.

Our offense will be better than 2010 and we did go bowling that year. We will be better at QB, WR and RB.

We lost our starting QB midseason or we likely would have shown improvement in the W column and gone bowling.

I actually think we did show improvement last year regardless of record.

I also think we will show substantial improvement this year, and it will show in the record.

My point was actually more nuanced. Phil Steele is, in my view, really uninformative. His book is 350 pages of him telling us how accurate his predictions are, without ever making any. I guess it's tough to be wrong when you rarely make a statement that can be measured objectively.

I thought it was 2012 when Phil Steele had the positive prediction for us.

In his season predictions for each team he starts out by telling us what the team did 10 years or so ago. It gets really annoying to read at times.
