Who is “they”? What other freedoms should “they” take from the public?
FWIW, the government “bans” lots of things for our own good, example is narcotics. Now there is a valid school of thought that government doesn’t have the right to even do that. That’s where libertarians come into play and I respect their logical consistency. But most Americans, myself included think there are some things that the government should ban. Large numbers of people driving around under the influence of LSD would be very dangerous to the public at large. Cigarettes though, smokers are pretty well only harmful to themselves. As long as they go in different insurance pools, let em smoke as far as I am concerned

I agree but most of them think the earth is their ash tray.

Then “they” should ban fatty foods. They should ban guns and bullets. They should ban all cars that can exceed the speed limit. They should ban sugar. They should ban meat. They should ban everything that can be harmful because the public shouldn’t be free to make their own choices.

Then we sure as heck better ban the Democrat party too 😂

People tossing junk out their car windows is really something.
I put graffiti in the same category. DESPISE it like nothing else. Trash can at least be picked up. Graffiti requires massive time and expense of repainting. And it is as ugly as vomit.

What makes you think it would be any larger than those driving around drunk? Why is alcohol legal?

BTW - not trying to start an argument, mostly thinking out loud. I never really understood the stance that narcotics, LSD, marijuana, etc...are harmful and dangerous enough to be illegal but tobacco and alcohol are not.

Same. One of the things that I am most ashamed of as a Southerner. Do you remember the old Tennessee Trash commercial?

Probably haven’t watched that commercial in 40 years and can still remember almost every next line 😂

Absolutely. Great commercial

Its a mindset. I have never once in my adult life thrown trash in the bed of my truck.

They should ban laws preventing idiots from getting their asses beaten. The level of selfishness today is unprecedented.

Unfortunately allowing freedom inevitably leads to some testing the boundaries. I don’t believe that big government is the solution. Cameras everywhere with public shaming on social media helps, but people are animals. Look at the miscreants blatantly grabbing things off of store shelves right now and boldly walking out of stores in California as the government has decided to not prosecute anybody with less than $1,000 of loot.

Neither have I, it’s also my pet peeve. Large percentage of neighbors use the street side as their disposal method. I have though about a yard sign
“ The world is not your trash can” I can’t put the rest on the sign. I’d catch a fine for obscenity.

A lot of it is cultural. In a lot of Europe and in Japan, the cultural expectation is that you just don’t litter. The average Japanese would not even think of throwing something out a car window because it would be shameful and shocking. And the government doesn’t have to outlaw it. I love America and our individual freedoms. But a good sense of manners, thoughtfulness, and politeness would do us a lot of good as a culture. And it should come from us the people, not from the government down. But if we don’t self regulate, we shouldn’t be shocked if someday it isn’t dictated to us. Irresponsible use of freedom eventually breaks itself.

People should never ever start smoking those cancer sticks. I quit 27 years ago.
During the 50s & 60s it was the cool thing to do ..... it was even considered glamorous.
They should ban all smokes to the public until you're at least 55 years old & above. That way it will take a lot longer for cancer & other health problems it causes to put you in your grave.

Lolwut

Half of the population has below average intelligence.

Authoritarian government can’t solve every problem. Holding each other accountable is the best that we can do but many walking among us have zero respect for others.

I agree. What has made it even worse over the last couple of generations is that our cultural focus as a people has changed from a) being a good person and member of society (the outlook of our parents and grandparents) to b) self actualization. This has taken natural human selfishness and put it into overdrive. That explains the protests, the theft, the demands for ever increasing benefits, and the demand for any lifestyle choices or chosen identities to be accepted unquestionably. We have become a nation of spoiled brats having a meltdown in the candy aisle of the department store. The greatest generation has to be shaking their heads in shame.
