I think Pig is all vol. I'm not questioning his heart. What I'm wondering is do you think he will play less next year? If our recruits sign on I see Pig's time being cut.

I thought we had a rule against starting a thread with JUST a player's name.

good grief!

Thanks for the edit!

No one really knows. I think he'll be in there on a lot of plays. He may not start but he should get his PT in.

I just hope they stop handing the ball of to him. Only positive was that play against UGA. It drives me insane.

He will start even though we are bringing in some talented guys. BTW, he is our best slot receiver and most proven pass catcher along with North.

While i see more receivers to divide balls thrown to. On surface would seem yeah less plays for Pig but as more talented players means longer drives sustsined. So less punts on 3 and outs and such. So my response is no way Pig loses playing time.

Think Pig is definitely in the mix, rotation next year. But the 3 most talented WRs on our roster next year will be North, Pearson and Malone and I would expect those 3 to start and see the most reps.

If our new WRs come in and are studs I wonder if pig could play corner? I'm not an expert on WRs but I don't think pig will make it at the next level there. If he could play two years and become a shut down corner he might make it there.

Our best slot receiver is a guy who struggles with route running? As if I wasn't already concerned about this team enough.

If you'll notice Butch and the other coaches call him Alton.
He probably hates the nickname

Some people don't get the fact that true freshmen take a while, sometimes a long while, to adjust to major-college football--and the same with juco transfers. Pig Howard will be a major part of the offense next year. Should be playing the slot and running crossing routes and getting the ball in space, so that he can run. Croom should be moved to TE, where he should have played this year. We need to focus on developing a good short-passing game.

Croom won't be moved to TE. He's not physical enough and the TEs in our offense have to block a lot.

Pearson and Malone are EEs, so it's not a huge stretch to assume that one of the two will steal some touches from Pig.

Pig is still our best true slot receiver though, so I wouldn't imagine he disappears or anything. Having some new talent like Malone and Pearson taking touches from Pig could potentially draw defenses eyes away from Pig and maximize his effectiveness.

Wtf?

How do people come up with this garbage?

Cause some folks have garbage for brains, that's why their posts reek of methane.

Common sense folks would have waited until this game experienced receiver went up against the new talent in spring and summer preparations to ask that question. Instead of looking at the ingredients for blueberry and blackberry pie, and asking which will taste better. Darn things hadn't even been baked yet and they ask that? Yep, it's VN, I suppose.

Nice of you to say what you did but that's not why Butch addresses him as Alton. An ex-player (or coach?) advised him to do that as I recall. Butch has however loudly played on the PA system a squealing pig as Howard was fielding KOs and punts during practice.

As for slot receivers, I think the coaches will be making a grave error if they don't insert D. Young for significant PT.

IF Pig isn't at WR, and even with studs coming in I still see him in that position, if he has good, consistent hands I could see him fielding returns.

We need to line somebody up in the wildcat on those short yardage plays. Only thing Dooley done right was let AJ run some plays on short yardage. Pig might get a few carries from direct snaps.

This is a very good take IMO. If Malone and Pearson are what we believe and need them to be, them Pig will see some of his playing time and by default, touches diminish. Should still be in the slot rotation. He's solid but not elite, not a game breaker like Malone and Pearson are touted to be.

The thought of Croom being moved to TE is silly. He's not nearly as physical as he needs to be at WR.
