It’s Wake Forest’s slow hurry up spread RPO offense against Michigan State’s defense in New York City.

Dave Clawson’s Deacons look to finish with a 9 or more win season for the third time in school history (the others being a 9-4 season in 2007 and an 11-2 season in 2006 when the Deacons won the ACC Championship but lost in the Orange Bowl against Louisville).

The Deacons looked to be taking advantage a down ACC on the path to an Orange Bowl bid (as Clemson’s replacement) - even getting ranked at one point - before injuries to multiple starting WRs, linebackers, and even quarterbacks caused them to lose steam near the end, a potentially 9 to 10 win season becoming an 8-4 one and unfortunately dropping them back from the Orange/Camping World range down to the back end of the Music City/Belk/Sun/Pinstripe (being almost punished pretty much for being a smaller brand).

This will be the first time in school history that Wake Forest has made 4 straight bowl games in a row.

TD Wake Forest. Having starting WR Hinton back has helped.

7-0 Wake 2:15 into the 1st quarter.

I would hate to see Dantonio get fired he has been a good coach with lessor talent...maybe he will just retire if he has a down season again

I’m not sure there’s too much actual pressure to fire him. He’s done quite a lot there.

Wake forces a 3 and out.

MSU having a lot of success with the run...but seem to be trying to still push/favor more passing plays.

That said, if Michigan State does get into a good groove defensively, they did a great job milking clock (6 min drive) and keeping both Wake’s offense and their defense off the field.

FG makes it 7-3 Wake late in the 1st.

I can see Dantonio getting a chance at South Carolina after next season, when Muschamp is let go.

Ball batted at the line and picked off inside the 20 by a MSU lineman for the TD

That result came mostly from the field position, which shows how important not committing penalties like holding on the kickoff return can be.

10-7 MSU with 2 min left in the 1st quarter.

Newman almost had a 20 yard run to balance out the penalty, but on the 3rd and long but he slows down 4 yards short instead of running through it!

Wake’s freshman RB, Kenneth Walker, is a fun player to watch. They don’t use him as much as the upperclassmen Carney, but when they do and he gets him the blocks, he’s fast and makes player’s miss / break tackles.

He’s also from Arlington, TN.

Wake’s drives aren’t converting on their first series of the drive and it’s turning into repeated 1:00 3 and outs.

That’s going to start to catch up with their defense if they keep only getting a minute or less to rest.

Great punt return puts Wake Forest at around the 35 yard line...the punter save the TD.

And a Wake Forest starting WR might be hurt on the punt.

ESPN executive: “Neither of these teams are really that great or too major of a national football brand. What should we do?”

Other ESPN executive: “What if we just make this game into an extended commercial for the New York Yankees for the entire broadcast?

Slower TE beat every Wake DB on that one. The Wake Forest defense strikes again.

One QB run later, and it’s 17-14 MSU with 7:59 left in the half.
