NIL rules seem to be 'fuzzy' and poorly-defined right now. It's a system that can work but they need to clean it up ASAP.No clue, but it should be. If a kid isn't in the portal, coaches or representatives of other teams should not be talking to them. If they are in the portal, then they're fair game.
Since the NIL isn't offered by the school and players are not under contract, there is no reason a business can't hire them to represent their car dealership or whatever garbage they are saying. There is no restrictions on a business offering someone that isn't involved with intellectual property from hiring someone to work for them. I don't think there is a way to violate any rules anymore. No clue, but it should be. If a kid isn't in the portal, coaches or representatives of other teams should not be talking to them. The story doesn’t end there as the Pitt football program believes that the USC coaches illegally tampered with Addison, while he has not yet in the transfer portal. PSN has been told to expect Pitt head coach Pat Narduzzi to make a public statement that will target USC’s alleged tampering with his best player. Sources also tell Pittsburgh Sports Now that new USC head coach Lincoln Riley is believed to have used the same questionable tactics to lure Oklahoma freshman quarterback Caleb Williams from Oklahoma to USC.
While this isn’t official, the word is that USC is offering Addison a NIL deal north of $2 million to head to Southern California. PSN is also told that this isn’t the first time a program has offered Addison a large sum of money. Following the season, it’s believed that Kentucky offered the Biletnikoff winner $800,000 to go to Lexington and he turned them down.
WR Jordan Addison Expected to Leave Pitt for USC, Greater NIL Opportunities
So $2mm for a wr that will be there 1 year and not bring anyone with him is ok.The story doesn’t end there as the Pitt football program believes that the USC coaches illegally tampered with Addison, while he has not yet in the transfer portal. Loophole... People you know can talk to people he knows... You know...Yes. You're not allowed to contact a player until they have given permission by entering their name into the database.
A lot of teams are getting these accusations, even Barnes got some heat. And I have zero doubt we're doing similar in football.Watch USC get on some type of probation again and Riley head off to the NFL like Pete Carroll did.
