Heading to Memphis from Springfield, MO to catch the MO State/Memphis baseball series. Will be our first time to Memphis.

We are staying in the Hyatt over by the mall.

Looking for some good eats recommended by the locals. (I know, I know, Tripadvisor, Yelp, yada yada)

Any places you'd recommend?

Ah yes, the famous Wolfchase Galleria. Well, if you like a good cheeseburger and a little local flavor head south on Germantown Parkway a couple miles to Macon Rd. and hit up Huey's (in the little shopping center on your right just north of the stop light). There's a couple places downtown that have good ribs, the Rendezvous is world famous and I love it but there are some detractors around here. Blues City Cafe is on Beale St. and they have ass kicking food. Around the Wolfchase area there really isn't anything but chain restaurants like Hooters and Red Lobster. Lot of folks up in here like Central BBQ. There's one on Summer Ave not too far from the Galleria. I went there a couple months ago and had their chopped BBQ plate and was burping it up for a while afterwards but folks up in here say the ribs and wings are good.

What's your take on Gus's Fried Chicken? My father suggested it but mentioned he hasn't been to Memphis in decades so has no idea if it is still highly regarded.

Central BBQ on Summer Ave
Gus' fried chicken
Germantown Commissary (if you're willing to drive 15 min)
The BBQ Shop
Leonard's BBQ for the lunch buffet. Best lunch in town

Those above are my favorite Memphis eateries

Avoid the Rendezvous, much to HMan's dismay.

I guess it depends what close is. Or I am looking at the wrong Gus's. They say they have one out east about 12-15 minutes from the hotel

Shopping center at Germantown and Us 64 / Stage road , Bartlett, really close to you, wait times are long as all their chicken is cooked to order

Germantown Comissary for bbq.

Folks Folly for a high end steak.

Itta Bena for a really cool high end Beale Street meal.

Huey's is great for a burger.

Corkys has a location in Germantown, but I'm partial to the location on Poplar. Their wet ribs are are really good.

*raises hand re: love for Huey's, love for Central, distaste for Rendezvous*

if you're in the mood to drop some cash on some great creole food, go to Owen Brennan's

Gus' is great, but as stated before don't eat at the one at Wolfchase, go to midtown. Bogie's, which is right across the street from Gus' is also very good and has one of the best burgers I've ever had.

Central is my favorite BBQ spot, and I prefer the location on Centra Ave. Germantown Comissary is also very good.

Blues City Cafe has great ribs and I highly recommend that if you're on Beale.

Uncle Lou's fried chicken is another favorite. I prefer Gus' but the "hot" sauce and biscuits at Lou's are delicious.

Also Jerry's Sno Cones. Absolutely awesome snow cones and food is pretty good too. Whatever flavor you get, get a deluxe.

You may think I'm crazy but Blues City has a very good ribeye steak.

That little ice cream mixed in with the snow cone is incredible.
