Play calling

Why, by the way, are we playing Oklahoma as a non-conference game?! Who in the SEC does that? It's insane. What, playing 4 top ten SEC teams is not hard enough!?

after Wolf and Pearson went down, they calmed things down. No need to show all your plays or run up the score and risk further injuries. Just play smart football and chew clock. I call the second half successful given the circumstances.

You are correct, it was a win, but how many of us weren't worried that the tired defense was going to let them catch up eventually if the offense kept going out and 2 yard run, -3 yard run, 3 yard run, punt?

Listen, I love that we have CBJ as a coach....but really? Come on? In the 4th Qtr, he is still sending Hurd out there to get practice? to get injured? Worley is still out there to get practice? to get injured?
North's last catch...he got up limping------that's after we have already lost Pearson/Wolf. Chances are, in this tough scheduled season of ours, we MAY depend on our depth to win a game.......BUT CBJ says no.....we are going to give them minimal reps until it really matters.....Like last year with Peterman. Into the fire....with the expectations of playing as if you had game reps prior. Whatever....bash away.

How are they going to execute these secret plays in game time situations, if they can't run the normal plays?

IMO we don't have the horses to do what the coaches want to do on offense. We have great WR and our RBs are at least good, but it doesn't feel like this is the best system with the qb and our online is very young.

Personally, I would prefer a pro style offense, but this is what we hires and we will see in the next couple of years if it can work in the SEC.

I don't buy the theory we are holding back. This is what we ran last year. I do think we came out flat in the 2nd half and we will play more inspired next week but I don't like our chances next week against a very good you team.

Oh my. I'm in awe at some of these posts. What were they suppose to do , take out all their starters in 12 point game with 6 minutes left? I'm leaving this thread, because there is too much unbridled insanity here.

Is Lane just totally out of the picture now? I am totally lost by most of the play calling. It seems as if our plan is to throw it to North and pray.

If we're trying to improve our run game and deep-throw game, I'd rather practice against someone else (when the game is firmly in hand) than my own team if only to prevent self-inflicted injuries on my defense.

The injury to Pearson and Wolf are my major concerns right now. We need them both for next week.

Ark. State practically never had big plays that weren't tricks (against Special Teams). We scored at will when we used our short passing game. The game was over after halftime regardless of what the score says.

If we had played for the win (continuing the play calling trends of the first half) we would have won by 25+.

The second half play calling wasn't what I saw last year - we don't usually run ~12 plays in a row unless the game is over, and we run far more screens regardless of the situation.

We were going to get blown out by 20+ against OK whether we won this by 10 or 60.

See UGA and USC games last year. We had no business being in either game but play calling and execution of "wrinkle" type plays put us in good positions.

With all due respect, I saw the second much differently. No rhythm and very poor execution all around. Pearson's and Wolf's injuries shouldn't have had an impact on our ability to block a mid major front 7 to any level of success, nor should it have led to less than 40% completions (5-14)and 41 second half yards passing.

I was bothered a little bit on the two special teams plays...the fake punt and the onside kick they almost got. We need to be more alert.

Playing calling in 2nd half was terrible. Too many runs for Hurd with nothing happening and deep throws. We haven't completed a deep pass yet so not sure why those plays are being called. OC abandoned the short passing game in 2nd half.

He wanted to run clock and gtfo.....coaches didn't care about style points today.

They wanted the game over with no additional injuries.

Same offensive play calling I saw all of last season

That's my biggest fear with this staff. For now I'll just pretend their coaching is on par with their recruiting and they're just waiting for the right time to unleash it.

There's no true read option with worley at qb. Same problem as last year...It's like the hitter knows a fastball is coming every pitch.

The only thing I can think of is Bajakian took this as a chance to fine-tune the 2 poor aspects of our Offense:

* Deep Pass

* Between Tackles running

The score hasn't changed, it's still a win.

The problem isn't the playcalling. It's the execution. Worley was air-mailing deep passes last week and is underthrowing them this week.

OL can't get a push and open any lanes for a RB even against a Nickel front.

I didn't really have a problem with the playcalling... more so the execution is depressingly bad.

Funny, I just said the same thing (sorta) on anohter thread. I think this is exactly what was going one.

Damn boys. Have you ever heard of holding some of the playbook back? We have a major team that we are playing next week. You do not show all your cards before the bets. Anyone that criticizes Worley after this game don't know much about football. I tried to tell everyone that this game was gonna be tougher than expected and I got ridiculed. I guess a 15 point victory was not what some were expecting and their in panic mode. I envision a lot of wrinkles next week such as more screens, reverses, etc. I hope Worley plays as well as he did this week next week.

the problem I have with this is. most teams know we have short passing game already....

most teams know we run screens...

most teams know we run the jet sweep...

there is a lot more off. that we've shown already. but, we completely abandoned it.

thankful for the win but I thought we could've done a lot more.:good!:
