Play calling

Playing calling in 2nd half was terrible. Too many runs for Hurd with nothing happening and deep throws. We haven't completed a deep pass yet so not sure why those plays are being called. OC abandoned the short passing game in 2nd half.

Terrible?: Can't agree. Conservative?: Yes.
Now wait, do you want deep throws or short passes?
North's catches wasn't long enough for you?
We're thin, my man, especially on the O-line and I tell you we're trying to run off time and get out with a win and on to the Sooners and the SEC.
GO VOLS!

Lane and Hurd will run over Oklahoma next week, I'm calling it. They have nothing but 2 weeks of mediocre running for game footage to watch against us. Wait and see, they'll both have a good game.

It may not be the play calling as much as lack of execution. Vol's have to find a way to run the ball better, even with the young offensive line.

It appeared that trying to get the running game going was the focus from the middle of the 3rd on

I wouldn't go that far out on a limb

I would say that was by design considering the short passing game is a big part of the offense. The field goal late was another example of intentional game planning to get players experience regardless of the results.

I think when we saw we could move the ball on them in the air and could control the game, we got a lead and the coaches ran the plays that we need to be able to execute but do not execute well currently. It was an added bonus that they would burn clock.

Is Bajakin killing it? No. I am not liking the play calling.

The guy who y'all should be mad at? Don Mahoney. This line is not awful. It's terrifying. What the hell is Bajakin supposed to when he has this line?

With all due respect

How are they going to execute these secret plays in game time situations, if they can't run the normal plays?

Agreed. People just need to stop with all of this "he's calling vanilla plays because he's purposely not showing our entire playbook" talk. It is nothing more than fool's hope. Our opponents have all of last season's film on us to scout what we do. We're not doing anything different from last year. What exactly do people think we're not showing?

You're the one making videos for the Finebum show!

I really think that Florida game today was very similar to our game against Western Kentucky in 2009. We came out against what was one of the worst teams in the FBS at the time and put up 62 I believe. The next week we played UCLA and could barely move the ball.

I don't think Florida will have has much of a drop off as we did in 2009, but I seriously doubt they will be the prolific Florida offenses of Spurrier or Meyer. It wouldn't surprise me at all if the struggled a little bit next week when they play Kentucky, and really struggle when the play Alabama. One week does not a season make.

As for us, I was really happy to see the team come out on a short week and run the ball better than they did last week against at least similar defensive conditions. I'm glad we didn't open our season playing against Temple or Eastern Michigan. Although USU and ASU aren't SEC teams, it was encouraging to see improvement from week to week. That gives me hope for the future. I really think this team is going to grow up week to week.

I was wondering how long it would take for the coaches on the couch at home to start questioning play calling. Now I have my answer

I also noticed that Bajakian seems terrified of throwing over the middle or to the TE down the seam. Everything has been out to the perimeter, 99% of the time.

You can be sure opposing defenses know these tendencies in the film room, and take advantage of it on Saturdays.

They are having a hard time running up the middle. Need to get it outside more. They'll get better as time goes on.

Listen, I love that we have CBJ as a coach....but really? Come on? In the 4th Qtr, he is still sending Hurd out there to get practice? to get injured? Worley is still out there to get practice? to get injured?
North's last catch...he got up limping------that's after we have already lost Pearson/Wolf. Chances are, in this tough scheduled season of ours, we MAY depend on our depth to win a game.......BUT CBJ says no.....we are going to give them minimal reps until it really matters.....Like last year with Peterman. Into the fire....with the expectations of playing as if you had game reps prior. Whatever....bash away.

It was a 2 score game the whole way......
