Player Reactions to Vols Seeding

Scotty tweeted: A 6 seed?!?!?!?
Pat Forde tweeted back: Best not to give committee 29-point loss as last memory.

course then again Forde has listed TN in his "Dogs playing poker" section of Five name teams from name conferences that are junk art at heart and will be bounced early:

calling TN: Tennessee (25). Any Top 25 team that gets pasted by 29 points in a conference tournament -- even if the opponent is Kentucky -- has issues. Combine that with Bruce Pearl's unspectacular NCAA tournament record at Tennessee (he's 5-4 despite twice being seeded as high as No. 2), and there is reason to suspect that the Volunteers are in trouble.

I'm not dogging anyone...but is he wrong?

i dunno; it just feels very unprofessional to just only look at the team's last game and say "oh yeah; this means they can't even make it past game one"

the other teams though he's got on his list are all teams that have been struggling through the last part (or in texas's case, last half) of the season

We've been inconsistent all season long. We should have drilled Vandy at home, combo that with the USC and Georgia games then you have a reason to say "They have the potential to lose in the first round"

yeah but that's not what he's say. I agree with that and if it were something along the lines of "they're such an up and down team that while they could do well they could just as easily lay a stinker of a game" or referred to that, then yeah i'd totally agree.

But his main reasoning/argument seems to be "come on, they lost by 30 to UK. I'm not sure they should really win anything, even day 1"

I don't disagree with Forde's idea that Tennessee could get upset in round one. But to use one game as the basis for such a thesis, is a little nearsighted.

I don't tweet but Forde is seriously responding to a Hopson tweet? Are they buds on the side or is this something that is the new norm in sports "journalism"?

If Scotty's motivation stems from what one analyst thinks about them, then we have some problems.
Did you watch the ESPN movie on Reggie Miller tonight? Great players sometimes pull legitimate motivation from some ridiculous places. If it works, it works.

Speaking of, that was an awesome documentary.

But yea, if he feels like that Seth Davis or Pat Forde pumps him up enough to play ball at another level, then that's what gets him motivated.

IIRC last time the team was motivated...we beat #1 Kansas. It could be good for us.

That team was also far more galvanized and united back in January than they are now. Not saying they aren't a team, but that Kansas win took a few players playing the best game that they possibly could to win.

I see us beating SDSU in a close/OT game, then losing to Georgetown in the 2nd round by 10+.

Just read an article from Rucker. Maze is getting me pumped up.

"It's not smart to give people fuel, and (Davis) just gave us that," Maze said. "Clearly, on national television, they just said we were going to be the biggest first-round upset. That comment, I was rather disappointed in that. But you know what? That was just more ammunition and more fuel for us, as far as I'm concerned. I'm fired up, man. We're all even more fired up now. I'm about to go get in some extra shots in the gym right now because of this.

I've never been more focused, more dedicated and more ready to play than I am right now. Come Thursday, I'll be as ready as I've ever been to play a basketball game.

I dont get this.

IMO Tennessee is better than:

Maryland (4)
Butler (5)
Temple (5)
Wisconsin (4)
New Mexico (3)
:blink::blink::blink::blink::blink:

I could understand a 5, but a 6?

Oh well, hope they prove everybody wrong.

We were on a 5 game streak before the UK game. We were a solid 4 seed. Vandy should have been the 6 seed. But I guess being the only team to beat 2 #1 seeds means nothing. I also guess that recently beating both the teams in the SECCG means nothing. Anybody that follows NCAA basketball AT ALL knows we got shafted. now... I've seen Maze, Chism, Prince, Hopson, Tatum, Williams, Goins, and Hall look like absolute superstars this year. Problem is, it was all in different games. This whole team is ticked off right now. I especially like how Bobby Maze responded. If we have even 2 of these players get hot in this game against SDSU, we will win by 20+ points. I've still got alot of faith in the team. They proved against KU and UK that this team is as good as ANYBODY when they play hard. GO VOLS
