Player Reactions to Vols Seeding

We were on a 5 game streak before the UK game. We were a solid 4 seed. Vandy should have been the 6 seed. But I guess being the only team to beat 2 #1 seeds means nothing. I also guess that recently beating both the teams in the SECCG means nothing. Anybody that follows NCAA basketball AT ALL knows we got shafted. now... I've seen Maze, Chism, Prince, Hopson, Tatum, Williams, Goins, and Hall look like absolute superstars this year. Problem is, it was all in different games. This whole team is ticked off right now. I especially like how Bobby Maze responded. If we have even 2 of these players get hot in this game against SDSU, we will win by 20+ points. I've still got alot of faith in the team. They proved against KU and UK that this team is as good as ANYBODY when they play hard. GO VOLS

I don't disagree w/ Vandy's seed as much as I do the rational people give for our seed. Vandy also had a couple bad losses including a UGA blowout, a loss to WKU, and 2 losses against UK. That said, if you give Vandy a 4 then there's no way we deserve anything less than a 5. Tough road ahead, but I agree that if this team gets hot they'll be dangerous.

If we were seeded by Hopson's play in the homestretch, we would not even make the NIT. Scotty, time to put up or shut up!

The road blowouts and the No show versus Kentucky, cost them. They've been bad inconsistent and the committee took that into account i guess. This team, at times has a certain unhealthy level of quit in them and it's showed up at the wrong times. They should have been at worse a 5 though. IF i were Bruce i'd think twice about scheduling teams like Kansas because the committee clearly showed him it didn't matter. RPI is the biggest farce going in College Basketball. All you need is a big red headed orge named goady (Notre Dame) or be Duke and you get a favorable seed and all the best matchups possible.

This team is really strange. Sometimes they look like world beaters, and then other times like the last 6 minutes or so of the game Saturday, they look like they couldn't beat a team made up of 5 yr olds. I just hope that Seth Davis did us a huge favor by his comments if that's what it's going to take to get this team ready to play the way they're capable of playing. Regardless, I think if any team heard someone say this about them it would only help to make them want to play even better....so, Thank you Seth Davis!!!!

Just read an article from Rucker. Maze is getting me pumped up.

"It's not smart to give people fuel, and (Davis) just gave us that," Maze said. "Clearly, on national television, they just said we were going to be the biggest first-round upset. That comment, I was rather disappointed in that. But you know what? That was just more ammunition and more fuel for us, as far as I'm concerned. I'm fired up, man. We're all even more fired up now. I'm about to go get in some extra shots in the gym right now because of this.

I've never been more focused, more dedicated and more ready to play than I am right now. Come Thursday, I'll be as ready as I've ever been to play a basketball game.

Good. Jon Rothstein from CBS said UT would never win 2 games in the tournament with B Maze at the point. He said: "There are 3 rules that I love by. 1)Never eat pizza after 2am, 2) Always get 8 hours sleep, and 3) Never put Bobby Maze as your starting PG."

That is a terrible thing to say about somebody.

But, unfortunately, he's not far off.

People have laid off Maze thus year because he scores some, but he simply doesn't facilitate offense and the d need not be addressed. He can drive it a little , but really only for his own shot. He doesn't go in to draw defenders and get others good looks. He puts it up. He goes right.

UK defender gave Maze the ENTIRE left side of the court and yet he STILL kept trying to go to the right.

What's with all the Bobby Maze hate? Even Hat said he's been much better than expected this year. Bobby Maze should be the least of our worries right now.

Vols BIGGEST challenge is to ignore or be shielded from all the anti-Tennessee vitriole on ESPN and the blogs today. Coach Pearl had better sequester the team like a jury is sequestered. What's going on here is a Reggie Miller psych job aimed at our team. All this will make them so mad they won't be able to clear their heads and play.
For this to go on like it is must be orchestrated. It ain't an accident and it has NO PLACE in amateur athletics. Adults and big business - media - are picking on kids, going far further than simply picking winners and losers. Today's rhetoric is akin to that in recent elections. In this case, focused against kids, it's just plain bullying.
Our coaches and the AD need to protect ours from this as best they can.

Scotty tweeted: A 6 seed?!?!?!?
Pat Forde tweeted back: Best not to give committee 29-point loss as last memory.

Probably True ... which means that the selection formula must be brain-dead simple, basically, and one doesn't need a high-payed, esteemed committee. The guys at any corner market could knock out just as good of a solution in an hour or so. Of course, the guys on the corner couldn't consider all those vital second and third-order financial effects.

As for Maze: he is what he is and it's been good enough most of the time. Next year: no Maze. But they'll still be plenty of Hopson or, should I say, not nearly enough? ... plenty enough to worry me, that's for sure. Can his fragile mentality can be toughened enough to live up to his physical potential in the two years he's got left?

Maze has his flaws, but he's better in the open-court, and this year, we haven't played in the open-court. I think he's been good this season.
