What if Milton does not show any improvement on his accuracy during the Orange Bowl.

He has had a few years to get better touch and if it’s still not there is he still the answer next year?

I hope he is spot on, but if not I can’t say that I think he will find the touch by next season.

Am I the only one really worried about this?

Why worry about it BEFORE the bowl game?

I’m not worried about the bowl game or Milton’s performance in it. Hopefully he plays lights out and we curb stomp them but if not the staff has time to get a QB ready for next season.

He is the only know commodity we have a QB. We know what he has done and no signs of improvement will cause a lot of crying by the fans who want to see Nico or Tayven. The problem is, they are unknowns at this level.

We have to trust the coaches with what they see in practice and believe they will play the QB that gives us the best shot at winning.

I think Milton is capable of being our best QB, I hope he improves and earns the right to be the starter next season.

Milton has already improved his accuracy from 51.6% to 63% this year. Seven TDS on mostly long passes with zero interceptions. Most everyone thinks he has not improved because of one game at Vandy due to overthrows in the wind and rain. Let’s see how he plays in the bowl game.

No. I would guess that's in the backs of most Vol fans' minds.

I did notice something in a still shot they showed advertising the game last night. He was finishing a deep throw as indicated by the position of his body and arm. I noticed his eyes. His eyes were directed toward the ball instead of the target. It can't be good to lose focus on your target as you release the ball.

Whatever it is... I hope he cleans it up. Nico and Jackson both need time to get ready.

PS- I think the staff has to adjust the O some for him. Milton struggles most on vertical routes. He is deadly on crossing routes and direct shots to the sideline. Instead of the circle route vertical routes that were so successful for Hooker, they may need to combo the outside receivers with outs or stops and post patterns.

No sir, everyone is worried about it despite their claiming otherwise.

Worst kept secret in Big Orange Country.

Everybody is thinking about the Milton situation wrong. Milton may not be Hooker but he is a QB with some experience. If not for him we wouldn't have anybody with any or limited in game experience. One advantage Joe doesn't create turnovers and that is huge. We will probably win more games with Milton in there until Nico get some experience than throwing him straight into the fire.

Milton placed his back foot on his own 30 yard line. He flicked his wrist and hit his receiver on the opponent's FIVE yard line. He has done that a few times. So, I am not worried about him having "touch" for the intermediate throws. He has the "torch" for the impossibly long - never seen before on a consistent basis in CFB - throws. If we can't hit the 15 yard out, then hit the 75 yard go pattern. Simple.

If he doesn't improve, we have other options. That's how good teams are

Someone on VN earlier this year (correctly) tabbed me as a NegaVol. My issues were almost 100% w the previous coaches, their staffs and their lack of grit and brains. That being said, I have always felt we have had good and above average players, and this year is no exception. Joe Milton was the best back up QB in the country this year, so while not perfect, I am giving him my all and wouldn't dream of being afraid or scared of his performance in the Orange Bowl this weekend. If Coach Heupel says he is the player to lead our Offense, than he has my support. And for the record, Clemson QB Klubernicker has just as much of a chance to play poorly.

If Milton does not show improvement, Put Tayven in let's see what he can do. Might as well see how he does under pressure now rather than later.

This is my biggest argument against Joe. He has now played in 5 seasons of CFB and is still wildly inconsistent. It is who he is at this point. It isn't magically going to be fixed in 3 weeks or 3 months.

Most everyone knows he’s compiled most of those stats in garbage time. Milton has to be successful vs good teams as a starter. I want to see how he performs vs Clemson. He’s had ample time to prepare. If he can’t perform well we need a good contingency in place on the team; if the staff feels Jackson is ready that’s fine. If not we need to get someone in the portal.

He has until the Florida game IMO. I doubt he loses it before then unless he just implodes here and then against Virginia.

I have a huge problem with using a bowl game, a month removed from the regular season and without a complete team, as any kind of gauge as to what kind of QB Milton will be moving forward.

Let him have a full off season as QB1 and go through spring ball before beginning to make final judgments. Trust that Heupel, who took another inconsistent QB in Hooker and made him into a Heisman candidate, will either be able to turn Milton into a QB that will win in the SEC or find another answer. Either way, the time for concern is a ways off.

It will be an open QB competition between Milton, Jackson, and Nico regardless of what happens in the orange bowl.

I am very confident that Heisman runner up QB and top offense guru Josh Heupel is in a good position to judge Milton’s progress and performance as September 2023 approaches. His aunt cornbread on the sideline anymore
