Are you suggesting that Joe will tear his ACL on the 3rd snap of the season and we will be forced to throw a sure fire 1st MLB pick lefty in at QB? Have you spoken to coach TV about this? Coach Fulmer handled Peyton about as well as well could hope given the circumstances.

Just what I said, possibly our best quarterback will not take over until possibly mid season and we will take some lumps on the way. I am in no way suggesting that we are opening with UCLA nor am I predicting Milton will tear his ACL.

Milton has already improved his accuracy from 51.6% to 63% this year. Seven TDS on mostly long passes with zero interceptions. Most everyone thinks he has not improved because of one game at Vandy due to overthrows in the wind and rain. Let’s see how he plays in the bowl game.
He also looked bad against SC. Sure, he was thrust into it but he was back to his old self in that game. So I'm not sure what to make of him still.

You play who has the hot hand and can win. That is that objective of every game.

What are you talking about, the Orange Bowl?

My concern is 2023, I couldn't really care less about a f***king bowl game - if we win, great, if not, okay.

No. I would guess that's in the backs of most Vol fans' minds.

I did notice something in a still shot they showed advertising the game last night. He was finishing a deep throw as indicated by the position of his body and arm. I noticed his eyes. His eyes were directed toward the ball instead of the target. It can't be good to lose focus on your target as you release the ball.

Whatever it is... I hope he cleans it up. Nico and Jackson both need time to get ready.
How long were you focusing on Joe?

I remember that throw. He hit the receiver in stride. It was a rocket on a rope. It didn't look like it got over 20 feet above the turf even at the highest pointt. I have never seen anyone throw the ball that far, that fast that far 75yds and hit the receiver dead in the hands without him breaking stride.

I say line our fastest receiver up keep running 80 yard post patterns.
His passes remind me a lot of Michael Vick's with better mechanics.

What if Milton does not show any improvement on his accuracy during the Orange Bowl.

He has had a few years to get better touch and if it’s still not there is he still the answer next year?

I hope he is spot on, but if not I can’t say that I think he will find the touch by next season.

Am I the only one really worried about this?

Good post, as you wrote what many of us are thinking. I would classify myself as hopeful but concerned. We love Big Joe and I am certain all of us want him to succeed and continue what Hooker, et al started last year and this year. The sky is the limit with Big Joe. Heupel obviously believes in him and is confident that Joe can run this offense the way it’s supposed to be run. He’s done that when he’s played this year. He has every chance to succeed in the bowl game and next year. He obviously has the impressive physical skills.

But the questions are there. Will he find the touch that all great QBs have? Can he correct his mistakes and learn from them? Will be able to process the situation within seconds, see the opportunities, and make the right call? Will he have nerves of steel and cold blood when the pressure is on to LEAD like Hendon did and all great QBs do? When the game is on the line, will he prove that Big Joe is our guy and has earned the keys to the offense? When he has to run to make a play, will he drop his shoulder and increase his speed and happily run over and through a LB (even though he’s probably coached not to do that)?

Is he a competitor? Does he have heart to refuse to lose? Does he have the temperament to leave the last play behind when he makes a mistake?
Watching him play now for almost two years, I can say “so far, so good.” He’s certainly earned his chance to be The Man. The job is obviously his to lose…or win.

Big Joe can’t try to be Hendon, the Sequel. He has to be his own man and make this offense his own. These are just my views from where I sit.

To answer your question…it’s now or never for Big Joe, at least in college football. He has to step up and TAKE ownership of this offense. Right now. And right now starts with beating Clemson.

No, you are not. I’ve tried to give Joe ever benefit of the doubt. Yet the overthrows against Vandy were troubling. We can cut him some slack for the rain. I’m willing to do that. It wasn’t a fair environment to accurately judge who he has become since Hendon took over. The problem is; those overthrows looked so eerily similar to the ones in the 21 Pitt game. I’m not giving up but I’m only cautiously optimistic.

this will be 8 months of development time after the Orange bowl and Halze plans to make him the QB.. Seriously doubt a bad game in Florida automatically discounts him..
Didn't Hazle say to the media earlier today he plans to have an open QB competition for 23 regardless of Orange Bowl? Or was that just lip service on his part?

coach speak... coaches generally are going to say that.. put it this way, others are going to have t far exceed Joe to take the job. He has to say that to keep Jackson from bolting after the bowl game as well

Maybe not lip service. But what he didn't say is that Milton has a very significant head start.

This is my biggest argument against Joe. He has now played in 5 seasons of CFB and is still wildly inconsistent. It is who he is at this point. It isn't magically going to be fixed in 3 weeks or 3 months.

So, he's been inconsistent this season in playing time? You must have Unconscious Bias.
