What if Milton does not show any improvement on his accuracy during the Orange Bowl.
He has had a few years to get better touch and if it’s still not there is he still the answer next year?
I hope he is spot on, but if not I can’t say that I think he will find the touch by next season.
Am I the only one really worried about this?
Good post, as you wrote what many of us are thinking. I would classify myself as hopeful but concerned. We love Big Joe and I am certain all of us want him to succeed and continue what Hooker, et al started last year and this year. The sky is the limit with Big Joe. Heupel obviously believes in him and is confident that Joe can run this offense the way it’s supposed to be run. He’s done that when he’s played this year. He has every chance to succeed in the bowl game and next year. He obviously has the impressive physical skills.
But the questions are there. Will he find the touch that all great QBs have? Can he correct his mistakes and learn from them? Will be able to process the situation within seconds, see the opportunities, and make the right call? Will he have nerves of steel and cold blood when the pressure is on to LEAD like Hendon did and all great QBs do? When the game is on the line, will he prove that Big Joe is our guy and has earned the keys to the offense? When he has to run to make a play, will he drop his shoulder and increase his speed and happily run over and through a LB (even though he’s probably coached not to do that)?
Is he a competitor? Does he have heart to refuse to lose? Does he have the temperament to leave the last play behind when he makes a mistake?
Watching him play now for almost two years, I can say “so far, so good.” He’s certainly earned his chance to be The Man. The job is obviously his to lose…or win.
Big Joe can’t try to be Hendon, the Sequel. He has to be his own man and make this offense his own. These are just my views from where I sit.
To answer your question…it’s now or never for Big Joe, at least in college football. He has to step up and TAKE ownership of this offense. Right now. And right now starts with beating Clemson.
