You could easily get there but only if you wanted to spend outrageous amounts on hotels. Those flights would be like 2500 bucks total. Say you add 4K for championship game tickets. There’s a lot of room to go before you hit 20k there. In the right car, you can get to Atlanta and back for 50 bucks from Knoxville. You could do it for closer to half of what you’re saying than 20k.
I drive a lifted wrangler, i can't get from Knoxville to Chattanooga on $50....

A tank ($70ish) sends me around 280-290miles.

Well you don’t have to do 3 or 4 days. I mean if you want to go see the city you’re in and explore the area while staying in a very nice hotel for 4 days, I can see how you can get to 20 grand. But if you just wanna take one person with you to see the games, you could do it for probably 7 grand or so.
Never been to either place so yeah I would have stayed. Figured most people would have done the same.

That’s understandable but if your main concern is just going to see Tennessee in 4 playoff games, you’d make it work. You’d have to live it up a bit to hit 20k even if you took 4 days at every stop.

I was watching the Hilton in downtown Knoxville. Was $1600 a night on Saturday before the seeding was announced, it was $128 per night less than 24 hours later.
I have always wondered what does it take to prove price gouging? $1600 to $128 seems like price gouging to me.

For my family of 4 I think it would have been around 12K to attend all 4. I book hotels 11 months out though, so those were all decent rates.

Do any of yun's feel that point shaving is a thing in CFB? Do any of you feel like obvious points were just shaved?

After watching that game tonight I feel we are a long ways off from having to worry about a NC game and our fans having to worry about the costs. I mean Texas was a Gitmo away from tying the score and maybe going into OT while we couldn’t have stopped OSU if we played 12v10.

and that doesnt take into consideration the time both adults have to take off work and the school the kids will miss

Don't go as a couple. My wife could give 2 ***** about football. Go with a buddy that actually cares and split it. And 20k is outrageous where you staying at the damn penthouse at the Hilton?
I think his point is $2,500 each for all four potential games. From TN ,only 1 of the four is driveabile. Add in LA, Dallas, and another airfare destination with likely 2 nights lodging and the math says $20k is not out of the Q.

Think of the cost for UT fans. First going to Columbus, then to the Rose Bowl, then to the Cotton bowl, and then the title game. That would have been 20k easy for a couple.

Think when stadiums are emptier than what the CFP wants, they will do more home games?
When will the stadiums be empty? I see people buying tickets and enjoying their teams.

Then I see people complaining about tickets and home games and nil and portal and whatnot... Weird dynamics going on...

It’s costly, but I dont think they are too worried. Just as Tennessee isn’t worried about the family of four being priced out.

I did drive, gas is not cheap, hotels were brutal, tickets had to be bought before prices went down or risk not getting one. Spent close to 2k on the trip without airfare.

Rose Bowl is much more expensive area, much more expensive tickets, same with the cotton bowl.

Nothing about the title game would be cheap. Right now on the gametime app, the cheapest title game ticket is $1677 each.
If tickets are that expensive, then attendance is probably not a concern.

Give it some time when people.get tired of paying for away games all season, then paying for 4 more away games with inflated pricing. OSU fans were already bailing on the UT game, how do you think we got so many tickets.

It would most definitely not be 20k unless you just wanted to make it as expensive as possible. CFP really only cares about TV ratings.

Agree with you here. Same for the NFL. Teams make their money off of merchandise and television, stadium attendance is just gravy on top of the potatoes. It’s why most newer NFL stadiums are built with a smaller capacity.

I think the point was it’s super expensive to support your team in a playoff run! No need to break the comment down to mileage🤣🤣🤣

I went to Columbus - it was a Saturday game that was drivable on that day and then back the next day. I had already made the decision that the only other game would probably be the championship game.

Cost is only one factor - time away from work is another. The only way to attend all four would have been if all four were in reasonable driving distance on a weekend (when I don't work) or within driving distance and back if on a weekday.

I think the championship game will be full, but not necessarily full of OSU and ND fans. There is going to be a lot in attendance who generally attend these types of games to be seen.

I do think in person attendance will wane after the newness of this wears off unless they change. They need to remove the connection to the bowl games other than using the venues.

As for the cost - most people do not go alone and taking your family could easily add up to 20K, maybe not a per person cost but total cost for those you normally go with could easily add up to that.

Right I was making the point that going to all 4 playoff games would be brutally expensive and might eventually make attendance lower than normal
