Plenty of teams want to hire Bruce.

"Boston College looked to one of its own first in the search to replace departed coach Al Skinner. Tennessee coach Bruce Pearl, a Boston College alum, said he spoke with athletic director Gene DeFilippo -- not for an official interview -- and told him that he was committed to Tennessee."

I wonder if there is ill feelings towards the Pearl from BC's AD? I would think no.

I'll be willing to bet he won't be at UGA or Bama next year. No matter how much money Bama has, $5 mil and 5 years left on a contract is a lot of money for a sport they don't care a lot about.

why wouldn't he be if we were not considering hiring him.....if they went after him and we told him no way. why would he not go to either of those schools. Might as well add Auburn.....

I think the Pearl lovefest is not completely based in reality. I do not think there will be AD's lined up to hire him when his show-cause runs out. Many of you forget the circumstances that led to him being at UT. He was blackballed by many in the coaching/athletic department community due to his dealings with telling on another school for violations. Add to that his recent black-eye with lying to the NCAA. UT fans love Bruce Pearl, and with just cause, but the rest of the college basketball community has a different view of him. There is certainly some AD that will ignore that baggage and hire him because they want to win. But the insinuation that Pearl will be chased by AD's like 12 year old girls running towards Justin Bieber is not accurate.

So Pearl is going to be avoided because he was both honest and dishonest?

Wake Forrest is another possibility. And FTR, people can say what they want about how bad UT fans talk about Martin but we are no where near as bad as Wake fans. They put an ad in the newspaper and a freakin billboard to let Jeff Bzdelik know they weren't happy. Just saying Martin...things can always be worse lol

See Bruce run. Vol Fans can kiss his butt goodbye until next year when he is on the other bench; somewhere. Meanwhile we have the equivalent of "The Project" coaching our team. Just laughable really.

If the administration and athletic department at UT has one ounce of common sense, they will be at the top of that list. The end.

So Pearl will get 10+ offers, but will ultimately end up at Tennessee for a very cheap price.

Got it.

He will get offers, how many who knows. The number of offers is not the question but who offers is the concern.

As a man or person, I you ever broken something that you loved and not wanted to fix it or at least been given the opportunity to prove you can fix it.

It wears on you for a while. In fact, with some you just want the opportunity to do so and money is not the objective. It is the repair of the thing that you contributed to that you broke it that drives you to want to fix it.

I would say that Pearl could be hired at a price a little be below the Fair Market Value and when he has proven to be worthy he would get over time the appropriate raises to compensate his worth.

Again I must admit this is all speculation because we still have a coach.

It will be interesting to see the teams that don't make the NCAA tournament or the NIT that will go after him first.

Other teams will work around the Show Cause clause not illegally but they will apply for early release and it will be granted or they will just work around it because they will know what they are getting and it will be worth the sacrifice.

New coach first year who cares this guy bring energy and packs the stands. Don't kid yourself he will be hired by a reputable university.

He does not want to come back to Tenn. They did not help Him when He lied. He knows they would throw Him to the dogs with any kind of violation.

I'm pretty sure Pearl would gladly come back to Tenn. Anyone that compares their future jobs to the previous one they had (Tennessee) would be a safe bet to say they'd go back to that school.

To put it simply, yes. He has broken 'code' twice now. By telling the NCAA about infractions of competing coaches (and what turned out to be minor/no infraction) and for lying to the NCAA. Two big no-no's in the eyes of the people that matter in hiring a college coach. Do fans like you and me care about that, nope. Fans at lots of colleges would have no problem deciding to hire Pearl. Unfortunately, fans do not hire coaches. And he has made mistakes that prideful powerful AD's will hold against him. Again, some AD out there will say screw that and hire him anyways. But they will not be lined up at the door like some on here think.

but if bruce loves UT as much as everyone here tells me, why would he ever go to a rival SEC school?

I figure you love UT if someone in the SEC offered you 3 million would you go? A better example if a rival company offered to double your salary would you love your present company enough to stay. You can love a place and if they don't love you back you find a different love.

I'm sure if Pearl wants to coach again, he'll get the opportunity. I don't think every school in a coaching search this off season will have him at the top of their list and I think it's safe to say, that not all fan bases are as high on him as this one.

A quick spin around a bunch of forums shows how fans for different teams view the situation. BC fans want him over Howland, but don't think the admin will hire Pearl. Then they have their realistic lists, the surprise was Avery Johnson which is interesting in an "out of the box" kind of way.

As for the SEC schools located in Alabama, it looks to be mixed, violently...which is no shocker. Concern that the NCAA will come sniffing around and it might hurt the football program is a common theme. Of course fans don't hire coaches, AD's do. Most of the Bamers think Grant stays.

I didn't see any mention of Pearl on the Clemson board, of course, there are other boards I s'pose.

I have an honest question. Is it normal practice for D1 schools to hire coaches coming of lengthy show cause bans? I'm sure it would be unusual for a school that fired a coach, to rehire the same coach after a show cause, but has it ever happened before?
