Points of emphasis from today's press conference

Did he take any responsibility for nearly losing to a program that didn't even exist 4 years ago? Did he mention why he didn't have enough depth compared to them? Did he say anything about adjustments that could be made to improve this team's performance?

Well Jones and Williams will both be back to full capacity soon helping to alleviate the cb situation. I don't know if we have much of a fix for the lb depth issue outside of next year's class. Just gotta pray the 2's step their game up.

I'm hoping that JRM, Justin King, etc., will step up at LB and, of course, get Maggit back, or at least know he is going to redshirt. JRM has looked pretty good on special teams.

This ............. but he is showing signs of "it's my way or the highway" attitude and as vols fans we r going to pay for it..

Coach cut was one of the best at build plays around your players vs. Square peg round hole coaching..

And on the running game check back with me after the next 3 games

Agree 100%. Good post. This fake fast pace offense (3 and out in 30 seconds) is really going to hurt us over the next few weeks.

Did he mention why he didn't have enough depth compared to them?

What was he supposed to say, that he inherited a depleted roster because of horrible AD management and coaching debacles? As soon as he says that he gets blamed for not taking ownership of the team.

So you're saying he doesn't have players comparable to what S. Alabama has on their depth chart?

Let me be butch and say what he wants to say.

Dear fans:

I inherited crap. I am not worried about 2013. We are going nowhere in 2013. 5-7, 6-6, 7-5, I really don't care. I am doing everything I can to make sure in 2015 we are a much better team and I don't get fired. If that means we don't look as good as we could in 2013, I am ok with that. I am not concerned about the margin of victory against a cupcake or the margin of defeat against a ranked team. You think we may be capable of certain things, but I don't know what gave you that impression. Apparently, some of you don't have cable.

I understand you want to see a fine looking team on the field. May I suggest YouTube? Perhaps, you have a video collection of some sort. It ain't happening this year. Not with these guys. This isn't poker. We can't go out there and bluff.

We are doing things my way because if it doesn't work out here, it ain't going to be because I was trying to be something I am not. I am not playing qb's who are not ready. I am not running someone else's playbook because several guys who won't even be here next year, and have accomplished nothing by the way, won't be good at it.

If you want to ***** and moan five games in because we are not setting the world on fire and are frustrated, I understand. But what the hell did you expect? Apparently, you heard nothing I said in the offseason.

For a bunch of people who thought that I "get it", no one seems to have any faith in any of the decisions I am making. Like I want to have Worley as my starting qb. I've dreamed all my life for a qb like this and finally I have it.

Sit back, shut up, and let me do my thing and I'll have some of you smiling in a few years.

Go vols

Thank you for posting the truth.

It did not take long for the negative Nancy's to rear their ugly little heads. I think we may have by far the worst fan base in college fb. If most of them decided to cheer for another team I would not shed one tear.

Way too much common sense in this post, and here at VN, we don't take kindly to common sense.

Quick, somebody give me a mattress to burn.

Did 99 just allude that Butch has been dreaming of Worley for QB? I was with him until that randomness.

Gators come on here and have more logic and vision than our own fans. I guess a lack of emotional attachment helps in that regard. Completely true post.

So you're saying he doesn't have players comparable to what S. Alabama has on their depth chart?

We have players that outplayed USA. They beat them. Our depth chart is probably better than theirs. How much better? Enough to win. Enough to perfectly execute every play in the game? No.

I can't believe what people want to hear a coach say. Do you want him to bash everything and everyone who came before him? The coaches that recruited these boys? (That's sure to help with team morale.) Do you want him to say how bad our players suck? Do you want him to say that he sucks as a coach, as does his staff, which I am sure would boost team morale? Do you want him to say he should not be given a chance because they almost lost? Do you want him to resign? Do you want him to apologize for not trying hard enough? Do you want him to give you your money back for buying tickets to the game or for the wings you bought while you watched at home for free?

This continues to bring emphasis to the issue Dooley had recruiting LBs and DBs. In his 3 classes, he brought in a grand total of 5 LBs. One of them, Vereen, is a more natural DE.

So Jones has a total of 4 recruited LBs brought in over 3 years.

3 classes.

4 LBs.

2014 class right now has 5 LBs with potential for 1-2 more. Jones will bring in more LBs in his first class than Dooley did in 3 years. I know this is repetitive but FFS look at the numbers. The numbers do not lie.

This ownus is entirely on Dooley. 5 Linebackers in 3 years. That's disgusting, Derek.

Ah, the quintessential Volnation thread: a gator troll tells UT fans they should be happy with barely beating S. Alabama, and they praise him for it.

Where did I say "be happy"

I wrote what butch would want to say.

In short that was "we suck. You hired me to fix it. I'm fixing it. It won't be fixed in 2013. Shut up. Give me time."

I didn't say to be happy about that

Gator fan posting and Tennessee fans in-fighting about how much Tennessee's fanbase sucks.

drew-carey-o-boy-here-we-go-again-ARS3IE.jpg

Glad this song and dance hasn't been repeated ad nauseum.

Okay, facts to agree on:

Florida has the best fanbase in the world. 11-2 and struggling to fill their own stadium. I wish UT could fill their stadium. But, as we all know...

Tennessee has the worst fanbase in the world. Just look how fickle we are! Overall losing record over the last 5 years and no short term hope for a change there. What a bunch of whiners. Look at us... wanting football success. Deal with being losers, losers. Know your role, and shut your mouth. Losers.

sarcasm...no one dreams of having worley at qb unless that dream is a season long nightmare that we are all living

Reading comprehension is a must for some of you.

Next time how about commenting on things I said in my post

Did I quote you in my post that you quoted?

Someone's scales are ruffled.

Because I wasn't even talking about what you said. If I was going to address something you said, I'd have quoted it and made bold the specific part of your comment I wanted to address.

Not everything is about you, in case you haven't forgotten, this entire forum is filled with UT fans with a huge insecurity complex combined with self-loathing and hating all other UT fans.

You issued your opus, you can see yourself out any time and leave us to continue catfighting about how bad UT's fanbase is.

Yep, that was exactly what was said. Amazing analysis buddy. Please continue to help us by deciphering future posts.

Butch - you might want to run a slower tempo on offense until you have a roster of players that can sustain over 80 snaps on defense. You might want to consider adapting to the roster you have instead of the one you want it to be until it happens. You might want to consider doing that before you go against UGA this weekend, to be followed by USCe and Bama. Sometimes you need to add in some baby steps to help a roster grow into the final product you want to see. Maybe you did not realize that most of the players on this roster are responsible for 3 losing seasons in a row. Perhaps you observed what happened to your D against Oregon, UF and USA.

Since Butch "gets it" I know this will fall on deaf ears. Just a thought from a lowly fan.

I agree with this

Those high reps for the Defensive starters can't be emphasized enough. That's going to lead to bad things the line.

Other than the obvious chances of injury playing that many snaps during the course of a game, what other negative results occur due to playing so much?
