-I like where he mentions their parents when talking about the true Freshman QB's. Reinforces family atmosphere, & a good reminder to all of us who sometimes think of these guys as semi-pro athletes that they're still kids after all. College kids.
-Some good stats to tout in #1.
-Kembrell Thompkins. Hated losing that recruit. Iirc, he & his parents didn't trust Kiffin or something like that. Can't blame them. But, why was he undrafted. He was pretty darn good at Cinci. Bad combine? Anyhow, I like him bringing that up, as again, he is reinforcing team & family, & name dropping pro athletes that are doing well that were under his stewardship is never a bad thing for a recruit to catch wind about.

That's also important to note when dealing with the Curt Maggitt situation. He might be healthy physically but not mentally. He might not feel comfortable with his knee. Jones is leaving it up to Curt and his family to make a decision on what to do.

Jones will not force a player out onto the field if they're not ready or if they're not physically/mentally comfortable.

He won't, for instance, allow a player who just got drilled and is struggling to stand up straight and puked on the field back out within 1-2 plays. Not naming names there....

Amazing to see us ranked so highly in defensive categories after last year's stinkfest.

Proud of the line and the RB's for carrying the offensive weight this season.

Let me be butch and say what he wants to say.

Dear fans:

I inherited crap. I am not worried about 2013. We are going nowhere in 2013. 5-7, 6-6, 7-5, I really don't care. I am doing everything I can to make sure in 2015 we are a much better team and I don't get fired. If that means we don't look as good as we could in 2013, I am ok with that. I am not concerned about the margin of victory against a cupcake or the margin of defeat against a ranked team. You think we may be capable of certain things, but I don't know what gave you that impression. Apparently, some of you don't have cable.

I understand you want to see a fine looking team on the field. May I suggest YouTube? Perhaps, you have a video collection of some sort. It ain't happening this year. Not with these guys. This isn't poker. We can't go out there and bluff.

We are doing things my way because if it doesn't work out here, it ain't going to be because I was trying to be something I am not. I am not playing qb's who are not ready. I am not running someone else's playbook because several guys who won't even be here next year, and have accomplished nothing by the way, won't be good at it.

If you want to ***** and moan five games in because we are not setting the world on fire and are frustrated, I understand. But what the hell did you expect? Apparently, you heard nothing I said in the offseason.

For a bunch of people who thought that I "get it", no one seems to have any faith in any of the decisions I am making. Like I want to have Worley as my starting qb. I've dreamed all my life for a qb like this and finally I have it.

Sit back, shut up, and let me do my thing and I'll have some of you smiling in a few years.

Go vols

Appendix: "As I have said many times, you can be a fountain [of positivity] or a drain [which pulls people down through incessant negativity]. I knew that Tennessee had an extraordinarily passionate fan base; I did not know that they had a disproportionately high number of "drains." This fan and media response is why I went to such extreme lengths to win the public relations war during the pre-season."

1)Many of our fans questioned Chavis' defense during the 95, 96 and 97 season. Thankfully Fulmer didn't listen to them.

2)Many if not most of LSU's fans questioned the Les Miles hire after we beat them in 2005 with their former QB, Rick Clausen. Thankfully for them, the AD didn't listen to them.

3)Many Bama fans questioned whether Nick Saban still had it after he lost to Louisiana-Monroe during his first season with them. Thankfully for them, well you get the picture.....................

I appreciate our fan's passion but questioning everything the coaches do only five games in is laughable. The quickest route to getting back to the top is filling Neyland and showing recruits the atmosphere that made it one of the most feared places to play. I'm not gonna boo our team or coaches when they are all trying their best to win. I hate losing as much as anyone but compounding that with unnecessary negativity only makes things more difficult for the coaches and players. And to complain after a win? It could be worse, just ask Alabama in 2007.............

I can't believe what people want to hear a coach say. Do you want him to bash everything and everyone who came before him? The coaches that recruited these boys? (That's sure to help with team morale.) Do you want him to say how bad our players suck? Do you want him to say that he sucks as a coach, as does his staff, which I am sure would boost team morale? Do you want him to say he should not be given a chance because they almost lost? Do you want him to resign? Do you want him to apologize for not trying hard enough? Do you want him to give you your money back for buying tickets to the game or for the wings you bought while you watched at home for free?

LeBron, I didn't know you were a Tennessee fan...

According to this data, Thompkins really bounced around over the course of his college career:

"Thompkins briefly attended Palomar Community College in San Marcos, California in 2008 before transferring to El Camino Community College in Torrance, California to play football. At El Camino, Thompkins recorded two 1,000-yard seasons in a row, being named a team captain as a sophomore. Following his sophomore campaign, Thompkins signed with the University of Tennessee in order to play under then-coach Lane Kiffin; following Kiffin's departure to become head coach of the USC Trojans football team, Thompkins transferred to the University of Oklahoma Sooners, but did not play at either university, as Oklahoma has a strict policy against admitting students with a history of legal troubles. Instead, Thompkins transferred to the University of Cincinnati, where he played for two seasons from 2011 to 2012.

I have no idea what the reference to "legal troubles" entails in his case.

Excellent points. Butch cannot unabashedly say that he loves his players, which he does with regularity, and then fail to act with their best interest at heart. Thus far, his behavior has been consistent with his rhetoric.

Other than the obvious chances of injury playing that many snaps during the course of a game, what other negative results occur due to playing so much?

There is an old saying that "fatigue makes cowards of us all." Regardless of your level of physical conditioning, that kind of work load, sustained over a long period of time, can contribute to loss of mental focus and breakdown of fundamentals. This is, in part, why Butch keeps harping on the need for this team to become better conditioned mentally, i.e. develop the ability to sustain mental focus, sound fundamentals and maximal effort despite the onset of fatigue.

This ............. but he is showing signs of "it's my way or the highway" attitude and as vols fans we r going to pay for it..

Coach cut was one of the best at build plays around your players vs. Square peg round hole coaching..

And on the running game check back with me after the next 3 games

Thanks for the laugh.
