Poll: Do you think we're going to get better before season's end?

Do you expect to see the team improve this year?

We will get better, but so will all the other teams.
We couldn't get to a Bowl Game with Patterson, Bray, Hunter, Rodgers and Rivera last year, so a Bowl Game this year is a very Long Shot at best. Injuries can quickly change things, as say, we have no more injuries and all the other teams have injuries pile up...while this is not something to hope for... there is that remote possibility...and it applies to us as well

Come on guys!! Thinking this team will beat SC or AU? Gtfo!!! Vandy will even be a stretch. Mizz Idk but I'm saying it's a loss. Way too many questions with the QB and O line. D has been pretty good but this will be a take your lumps year. Next yr with recruiting if we don't lose most should be a lot better. Idk how bad we can get but it can't get too much worse right??

I don't want to be negative but I just don't see us making it to a bowl this yr. The QB position is going to kill us all yr. Sorry for being so negative vol nation but that's just the way I see it going this season and possibly next yr to. GO VOLS!

We have to get better because we can't get much worse. There's only one realistic win left on the schedule & anything else is wishful thinking.

The QB situation is part and parcel to the development of the WR's/TE's, conversion of the OL, and performance of the RB's. Improvement in any of those areas will have a corresponding effect in other areas. ALMOST every case of improvement in any human activity goes that way. It is an exponential curve that's steep early and flattens out as you approach the true potential of the talent you have.

The angle of the curve relates more to coaching and player motivation than talent. The potential is what it is.... how quickly underperformance approaches potential is a big variable.

Love it when I see these posts. For some, VolNation seems to be a practice venue for English Comp essays.

Why isn't there an option for a signature win and a bowl game?

The three negavols need to gtfo lulz

The funny thing is, if you read most posts on this forum, a good portion, maybe even a majority of them, say that the coaches can't do anything because the talent is so poor and we shouldn't expect improvement until 2015 or 2016. So, given the numerous posts that state this, it's kind of odd that only 3 voted that way so far.

Would have been alot better if it were a public poll, but then that's true of every poll on here. I'm sure alot of the people who voted that they expected us to improve will post and say something along the lines of "Well, what did you expect? We just don't have the talent to compete," if we finish poorly.

We are already improving, week by week. Outside of the QB issue, look at how our Defense has improved and look how our players are not giving up when we start to loose. Lets be patient. A year or two, we will be spanking asses.

One of our signature wins will be Vandy as we will tattoo a Power T on their arses. They will be signing over all claims of decent, recruitable athletic talent in the state. I also would like to beat any SEC team from Columbia or with dead toilet papered trees.

If you take a mulligan for the duck game, our D is holding opponents to 17 points per game.

We are getting a lot more depth in the secondary and DE positions. Still light at DT and perhaps LB though.

With Mizzou sched, in two weeks they get their first test: Vandy followed by UGA. Then we will know how good they are. Aub is a force, no doubt but they just lost a starting WR for the year. Vandy has issues on defense and an ongoing scandal that might take down their starting QB. KY has issues and our rush defense/rush offense matchups favor us.

If "Butch gets it" like many claim, yes we will see marked improvement even with a lack of talent and depth. Any coach worth his salt is gonna make his team better, talent or not.

That still not gonna result it a 8 win season and 7 would still be a stretch.

Thought the thread was about us improving. Isnt that the goal? Losing talent at skill postitions(QB) like we have, would a 6-6 season be an improvement? Yes, it would. ANY COACH WORTH HIS SALT IS GOING TO MAKE HIS TEAM BETTER??????. Did Dooley make his team better? What did Dooley build? Tell me.

Yes we improve to a bowl game and possibly a signature win. If not, I'm concerned about keeping this recruiting class together.

Of course we will! Nowhere to go but up at this point.plus the improvement is obvious at times, but when we mess up, well let's just say we are getting better in that area also. My prediction is you'll see 65 plays on offense Saturday, with over 25 first downs and over 6yards/play. Defense will keep them to under 250 total yards and have 3take always. These will be consistently improving stats going forward.

Before the news of availability of Jones and Williams I was on the "we're probably going 5-7... maybe 6-6" group. Of course, that's what I thought coming into this year. I thought Florida would be winnable, and it was, but I didn't think we would win against them.

With both Jones and Williams available... the entire makeup of our defense changes. Now we can legitimately (without injury) plan on having Williams/Sutton at CB and Coleman at Nickel. That gives us 3 guys with legit 4.3/4.4 speed at all non-Safety DB positions. Not to knock Toney and Swafford but they're not 4.3/4.4 guys. Jones should provide good depth at CB and Swafford at Nickel. Coaches were very impressed with Williams at CB and he was projecting opposite Coleman.

We also get Saulsberry back by late October if everything goes to plan.

Vereen will also get work and, 1-2 weeks after being healthy this young man is already pushing for a starting position.

With some luck, maybe we get Couch back.

If either Worley develops into something resembling an SEC QB (don't need Tebow here, just a Rick Clausen type) that forces teams to not load 8 in the box against our run... gentlemen, we could have a football team.

Of course, this is all theorycrafting and injuries will likely happen that will change that makeup.

Oh nos! Not Rick Clausen!!!
