after 2 years we will know if Jones is capable of rebuilding the Vols, if we are not competitive in year 3 then the Vols probably won't be competitive this decade.
Let's face it the Vols are broke and in the cellar, the memories of the 90's are now just that..... memories. I remember when Old Miss was a Power House and the Vols may be folllowing a similar fate....I sure hope not, but I do indeed beleive we are at the crossroads....we either take the high road or the low road....time will tell
Go Vols
I want him to win 6 games next year. The schedule should allow at least that, if he is a good coach. It should be a linear progression upward for the years after that.
Just about have to give him 3 yrs unless he turns out to suck worse than Dooley, but we'll know after 2 yrs whether we're heading in the right direction or not.
It doesn't really matter since he has a 6 yr MOU with a $2 million dollar buyout per yr left on the contract if he is let go. UT is too broke to buy him out and if he fails we are stuck with him for a while.
Still don't understand why Hart offered a 6 yr deal.

That would mean we beat the 5 easy teams plus either Missou or Vandy. Can't count on those but it is possible. The other 5 we are clearly over our head.
I think the pole is more about measuring expectations rather then how long CBJ will get...
as for me...
7-5 1st year
8-4 2nd year
9-3 3rd year
as long as he consistently wins SEC games, and gets 8,9,10 win seasons, we should let him work out his contract...then evaluate his whole UT career at year 6...
I said 4 years, but I expect more from him than I did Dooley. So by year 4 I want to be a serious contender for the SEC, not just the East, but for the conference championship. I'm not saying he has to win it by then but at least have us close and competitive for it.
If he can't get it done in February, he isn't going to get it done Sept - Dec no matter how good a coach he is. He's got to show something this class to have any confidence going forward.
6 years was probably the number that CBJ felt comfortable with...we often forget that after a job offer there is negotiation for # of years and how much money...CBJ in order to leave his current job he wanted security. I understand that it takes two to tango. Negotiating at the professional level is one of the hardest and most frustrating aspects of any job offer...for both sides.
Had to give CBJ or any coach a long contract for security, TN is still a risky job. IMO the poll doesn't give a complete view of the expectations. What if Butch goes 7-5, 7-5, 8-4? I'm not sure fans would be crazy about him at that point but if he had a couple upsets along the way then we would see the progress and the capability to go head to head with the big boys. If we're 8-4 and getting slammed by our main rivals have we made enough progress? Tricky situation.
