“There are a lot of traditions that we’ve had for a long time in college football," Saban said during his press conference. I think we’re in a time of evolution for whatever reason. And some of those traditions are going to get sort of pushed by the wayside, I think, and it’s sad.

“Whether it’s good, bad or indifferent for college football — I guess you have to define what is good and bad for college football. So, I think one thing I would just hope that we would keep in mind in all the choices and decisions we make relative to what we do in college athletics is the student-athlete."

Something Saban and I agree on.

we need to get back to this Kick out everyone else and play 75% of the teams every year

GOOD OLD DAYS!!
I was excited about TBS football because I could see the UT on TV at least twice per season.

I think this latest re-alignment is actually based on the reality that less money will be involved in future deals. So conferences have to provide streaming platforms a stacked deck for the deal.
SEC and B1G have the market cornered on big-time football now.

Less money on the table means 5 power conferences are too many pieces to split the pie like previous deals. BigXII and Pac 12 are superfluous in that scenario. 3/4 of the pot will go to SEC and B1G. ACC and BigXII will split that little 1/4 leftover, if the ACC survives the near future. Then anyone left in the ACC is 2nd tier whether they are good or not.

Remember about 12 years ago when the big story was TX, TAMU, OK, and OkSt were going to the PAC12? The PAC12 became irrelevant quickly.

We going to 4 or 5 super conferences. Once it gets there things will level back off. I don’t think the sec cares about extending anymore for a little bit. I think once we get there folks will like it. Everybody sees the sec’s success and they are trying to realign and strengthen their own conferences. The big 12 is doing a nice job, I think they will be stronger than the ACC.

That's the thing super conferences will get rid of. The Clemson's, Michigan's and Ohio State's will actually play real schedules for once. Tennessee is already familiar with a tough schedule, it won't change much, but those other elite teams won't be elite anymore when they have to run the gauntlet we are accustomed to. Look at last year, if we swap out Georgia for Clemson (if they were to join the SEC) our season is much different. How many times have we complained about other conferences weak schedules? Now is the time to see how they truly stack up.

Ohio State (depending on the year and how they will be scheduled to play), playing either Oregon, Washington, USC or UCLA is NOT like SEC teams having to play Alabama, Georgia, LSU in the regular seasons. It's just not and I think the teams moving to the BIG 10 won't get much better, they may very well get worse.....

Have 2 friends, Mzou grads and big fans, were also saying that about TX, that they will come in thinking they are the most elite program. They will get a rude awakening.

Their refusal to drop their Longhorn NW for the Big12 NW was a big reason for A&M-Zou leaving. Have not heard what Sanky has done to mitigate that in the SEC. Cannot imagine he lets them keep it over SECNW.

Will be “folded in” which is an easier way of saying Sankey/SEC said “if you want in, you won’t be bringing your network with you.” Pretty sure I heard somewhere else Sankey told them absolutely not.

I was basically referencing Clemson if they were to join the SEC but would you rather Michigan and Ohio State continue their cupcake walk to the championship game? I don't. If it was last year, I would say a trio of USC, Washington, and Oregon is about as tough a schedule and as close to an SEC schedule that your going to find anywhere in the country in another conference. Nobody but the SEC is going to have an SEC type schedule. My point was teams that join the SEC will get a rude awakening, teams already in the SEC can motor along because we are used to it. Other conferences with more competition is good for the sport. More losses on their resume or bigger wins you can point to and justify their place in the playoffs.

In less than a year the PAC12 has imploded: USC, UCLA, Oregon and Washington heading to the Big 10, which now needs to change the name of their conference. BIG 12 has rallied because last year when Oklahoma and Texas bolted everyone thought that conference was dead. We are heading to 2 or 4 mega conferences with SEC and BIG 10 being the drivers. Sankey will either sit tight or add 4-6 in the coming weeks, IMHO.

You have to think TV markets and competition. This would be legit:
Clemson
FSU
NC
VT or West Virginia (1 team from Virginia state)
Louisville or Baylor
Notre Dame

No to ALL the teams mentioned about coming to SEC. Stop it, if their current conferences are imploding why would we want ANY of them? Just please make it stop

I am enjoying college football more than I have in a long, long time. Maybe more than I ever have. I am not buying into the media hysteria. Let's just keep winning.

Four 16 team super conferences. Everyone else is Div II playing for their own championship "NIT". Each superconference sends the top 4 teams to the 16 team playoff for the superconference Championship.

It's pretty simple, everyone that sits on their hands gets eaten. The B1G has created an advantage over the SEC. The B1G can say they are a national brand. The SEC is going to have to protect the south and hope that the distance is too much for the teams in the B1G.

I don’t agree with this at all. The Big Ten acts desperate and seems to be adding any school with a pulse. How does a league whose borders literally touch every edge of the Continental United States have any kind of identity? I just don’t see it.

Plus, look at the list of mediocrity in that conference. They could easily trim 10+ schools and lose nothing.

The Big Ten woulda been much better off merging with the PAC and having Heartland and Coastal divisions to maintain some geographical rivalries IMO. Who is going to care about Rutgers v. Washington?

The NCAA is a toothless anachronism.

The remaining Power 4 conferences should leave them and start their own governing body that embraced cutre t realities.

There are 66 power 5 teams. It would be best if they just geographically aligned... some with max of 24 teams and min 18 teams. 4 Divisions East, West, North & South.
