Somebody explain how Ole Miss was No. 1 in the first place? They were 16-4 coming into the series with the Vols--losing to Southeastern Louisiana, Oral Robert,Central Florida and Auburn--their only SEC series, in which they won 2/3. Auburn is 17-7 and 3-3 in the SEC. All of Mississippi's other wins were in non-conference games against opponents ranging from weak to mediocre. I fail to see anything in Ole Miss's pre-UT series record meriting a number 1 ranking, and we'll see if it is even in the top 20 come end of season. Maybe.
The same reason Duke got a 2 seed in the tourney. In hindsight, it was probably warranted, but you get my point.
GBO!!

I’m not worried about RPI on the whole per se because of the SEC schedule and how much we make up there BUT I would love to see some midweek games earlier in the year vs ACC brethren around us A) to test us/gauge us before SEC play and B) for entertainment value. Auburn typically plays GT, UGA plays GT, Scar plays UNC and Clemson, Vandy plays UofL, UK plays UofL. Hell State played Texas Tech this year. Within 5 hrs of us, we have GT, Clemson, UNC, VT, UofL, Duke, NCSU and Wake. Do home and homes throughout the season or a neutral site in between; there’s enough minor league parks around to ease the drive for both teams and expose other fans who may not make it to home games at either school.
Damn that’s a 👍 good idea!

Another alternative is to schedule some away games against tougher teams and not so tougher teams farther south so the kids can play in better weather in the early season. Maybe schools like Tulane, Rice, Florida State, Southern Mississippi, etc. Drivable for UT fans for weekend excursions would work.

RPI is Vols only non #1

DBU won last night at #36 LaTech and host #55 Woffird this weekend.

They’re a good team and even a simple series win at #23 Vanderbilt may not beat the math. Unless the Vols sweep all 4 games this week, then it will be close.

Of course, the RPI is meaningless even with selection committee who uses other math based ranking. Just a mental exercise

If Tennessee really wants to boost that RPI, they should schedule a road game up here at Indiana State so I could attend.

Tennessee hosted them (the Sycamores, right?) a couple of years ago. Pretty good squad, IIRC.
