Pool Owners Thread

Based on what I've read a DE filter is the hardest among the 3(DE, sand, cartridge) to clean. Also from what I've read, the DE filters can filter finer particles but don't let that be a selling point as sand and cartidge filters also produce crystal clear water as they wouldn't be on the market otherwise. Also from what I've read it's all about properly sizing your filter no matter the medium. Don't put too small of a cartridge filter on a larger pool, or you'll hate it, get a properly sized cartridge filter to begin with. Size the filter slightly larger if your pump and plumbing can handle it.

I cut it out when I opened up the motor. It was the only way I could get to the screws on the bottom. So I'll have to redo the PVC piping anyway. Plus the PVC was old and had a hole in it.

Ah bummer. I had my motor burn out and it warped the impeller. I think I spent about $150 to replace it all. I didn't want to even attempt to do the plumbing on my system, it looks like it was done by a madman.

This one isn't bad. I just wish I had 2 inch as opposed to 1.5 inch plumbing.

Seeing that sketch of the filter reminds me how glad I don't have to mess with that any more. Pools are fun but a lot of work. I'm more of a hot tub guy

It's not that bad Jax. I have really enjoyed my pool since I hired someone to clean it once per week. I occasionally have it cleaned twice. Just trying to help the local economy. Here is my pool being cleaned.

Lol!

Learned a valuable lesson about our new pool this weekend. Do not let anyone fresh off the lake get in your pool without changing suits and showering!

I hate to ask...

The next day I had what I believe was the start of an Algea bloom. Had crud on the walls that was not there the day before. Scrubbed it then shocked, appears to have taken care of it.

Ahh makes sense. I was wondering if maybe you had an algae issue. Luckily I have a shower by my pool for such occasions!

Seems like the normal levels of chlorine in the pool should have handled this to begin with?
