Poor student turnout for student appreciation practice

Yea, I don't even have 10 AM classes so there was no way I was making it to a practice that early.

This is what happens when you start raising the academic standards.....bunch of nerds on the hill!

Back in the day, I knew a guy with a 12 on the ACT who got into UTK. He started on probation..(or something?). And only lasted a year.

But Ken would have been there this morning for the football team!

I was there and had a good time, albeit hungover. Like another poster said somewhere, had this been around 2 P.M. with some chicken wings we'd have at least 3k

I'm a very passionate student/fan. Making the practice on Saturday Morning at 10 AM was a horrible idea. 80% of college students are asleep at 10AM on a Saturday, as was I. I would have 100% went if it were at night.

Not only would I have skipped 10AM on a Saturday but I'd have skipped it on a weekday. After my first semester I learned I could schedule my classes for 11.00 AM and later. :)

Times sure are changing. When waking up by 9:30 to be somewhere by 10 am is a problem for the "future" of this country....weve got some serious issues. You students should get your lazy arses out of bed and participate. Next time BJ should tell students to show up, no more asking. Bunch of spoiled pansies! Man that felt good.

You know what the great thing about college is? You don't have to do anything you don't want to do nor do you have to listen to anyone shouting at you and trying to order you around. You get to be an adult with free will.

Keep on believing that

I was up, but I was guessing it was going to be even more boring than the o/w game. Hated practice as a player, so why would I watch it?

Next year instructions for Butch Jones:

Step 1) Pick a great time: 8pm - 11pm - Gives students three options:

A) Preparty with a 5pm happy hour tailgate
B) Hit Strip/Downtown right afterwards
C) BOTH!

Step 2) Play an actual scrimmage. Even if it's just one quarter's worth at the end of the practice

Step 3) Have the students pick a team at the beginning - orange or white. They pick their squad for the scrimmage. Winning team gets something worthwhile like preferred student seats for home opener.

Let's think about who may have their priorities right:

Current college student: After a long week of studying, our student goes out and enjoys the company of their friends, colleagues, and potential bedmates on a Friday night with the hopes of making lasting memories. So much enjoyment makes for a late start on Saturday. Opts to not shape precious weekend around watching another 80 students run around the field in circles and catch balls while moving their legs.

Current message board poster: Spends Saturday night bi t ch ing about a younger generation for not taking up the opportunity to see something that was probably not very interesting or exciting. Negatively stereotypes an entire generation in the process.

lol, I'm off to my evening -take care guys.

Students not waking up early to go to a football practice clearly reflects badly on the future of our country.

Have you seen the student section lately for actual games? Maybe Step 1 would help with that but it's clear the students just aren't into the football team. Maybe because anyone not on on this guy's college plan has never seen a team with a winning record.

Yeah and the funny part is that generation will be subidizing your retirement and now your healthcare.

I never went to one O&W game while I was a student, but showed up for all games

You make a pretty good point. I don't recall if I went to the O&W game or not when I was at UT. I'm sure I did but Spring games aren't that memorable.

But I certainly was at every "real" game.

I know butch was n the band so his college exp Was n the bed by 10..jk. Lol

You obviously know very little about Band culture. In bed by 10 am, maybe. Do you know how many places there are to hide alcohol in a decent band uniform?

One band trip would totally change your understanding forever. And you'd thank me for it.

All in good fun!

Hey, that is a photo of Ken from 1979!

He ended up graduating from MTSU and is now president of a bank in Manchester.

But, he would have been there for free doughnuts on Saturday morning...he never would have gone to bed Friday nite

Don't know if I would have attended or not, but only because it's turkey season. I can count on one hand the number of days I've slept until 10:00 am. Now, I can't count the days I've felt like crap from the night/early morning prior, but I've never been able to sleep past about seven. Only one thing has ever kept me in bed past that time, and I'll be happy to give any student in that position a pass.

I don't blame anyone for skipping the practice because they had something else going on, but dang blaming a hangover for missing ANYTHING is the lamest excuse I can think of.
