Portal Activity (News and Rumors)

Kinda surprised he took underslot, but I think he becomes a steal. He can go hang out with Vol legend, Reggie Crawford, now
He didn’t really have much of a choice. As I said all weekend there was almost no chance that both sides didn’t work something out because both had major
Incentive to get it done

I don’t know any more than you do. I just listen to what the people who do this for a living say and assume they wouldn’t lie. So I just don’t know why people would automatically assume that this must now be a bidding war just because the Holman’s are taking time on this big decision.

NIL just feels like too much of a cop out these days. It’s the easy excuse now. AP said as much the other night on VQ. NIL’s impact on recruiting is not as profound as we think it is. It has an effect for sure, but I think people are just assuming that if we lose our on a recruit in any sport, we must have been outbid, which I just don’t think is the case for the majority of recruits.
Well, I rarely listen to any of those folks so....

It’s going to be extremely satisfying when Holman is a Vol and we get to laugh at all the dumb dumbs out there that never gave TN a chance in this recruitment.

Especially the MS State beat writers who are making themselves look foolish twice over by doubling down and taking shots at Ben McKee.

Anyone who dismisses Tennessee like they're crap isn't a Vol fan.
Skenes dissed us for more money, that’s straight from the mouth of CTV’s dad. So unless he made it up or CTV “lied” to him there’s little to no other reason why Skenes chose LSU. CTV felt confident he was in the bag until he called and said the offer was doubled and he was going to LSU.

Where do we draw the line on history counting and not counting?

The SR win in 2021 only hurt UT versus LSU in 2023. LSU retired the coach and hired a guy who took the top 2 transfers and a #1 recruiting class to 4 of 5 wins wins over UT in 2023, including 2 in Omaha en route to a national championship.

LSU won 6 games in Omaha this year. UT has 5 Omaha wins in the history of the regional format that dates back to 1954. LSU’s success is on a totally different level from UT. They were just in the championship series 5 years before and they don’t even talk about it.

LSU is the top program in college baseball today because of what happened in 1996. The 90s are what created the support and passion for college baseball down there that carries the program today. They don’t fill a 12,000 seat stadium because of what Mainieri did in the 2010s. Though Mainieri did win a championship there.

In percentage terms, their average attendance in baseball compared to UT is like comparing UT to Boise State in football (60% less.) Boise has had nice success - a bunch of consecutive bowl games, 3 Fiesta Bowls - they’d probably argue more ”recent” success than UT. But we would never accept an argument that Boise is a remotely comparable football program to UT.

LSU has 4 SRs, 10 Omaha wins, 1 national championship in the last 6 full seasons.

TV is going into year 7.
That make them a better program over the course of history and a more passionate fanbase. Hell, OM and Arkansas have more passionate fanbases than UT and more sustained success than UT over the last 20-25 years. Neither would be considered a better program at the moment than UT. 12k fans don’t make you win a championship, good coaching and great players do and LSU is not on some other worldly level than UT right now in those 2 categories. Last years portal haul was arguably #2 behind LSU and this year’s might wind up 1 (for sure will if we land Holman) and that’s w/o the NIL pockets of LSU.

Despite winning championships, LSU baseball fans and Georgia football fans seem to be completely incapable of shaking their insecurities vis-à-vis Tennessee. It's weird how much energy they dedicate to this stuff.

You've got a great program—why spend so much time trying to justify yourself to people who are beneath you?

Regardless of what Kendall Rogers thinks, our coaches talked to Holman today and he had not made a final decision. We still feel good, but LSU does too. NIL is largely equal and is not what they’re contemplating. He wants to get stronger, increase his draft stock and compete to win a championship. Coaches will know by eod tomorrow. I’ll share anything I hear.

I have a feeling Q and this strength program are going to win this recruitment for us. Just a hunch. Thanks for sharing, SF.
