We didn’t lose him. He’s not officially in the portal. He wants a restructured contract going forward. He requested papers, that’s all.

It’s a huge problem for every school having to recruit players you already recruited or developing players just for them to transfer.
I’ve mentioned contracts and gotten hammered by people citing Supreme Court rulings and precedents. I’m admittedly mentally deficient….so could someone explain how this works? I thought at the onset that NIL was all on the players. If they could make money on their name, it was up to the player, the agent, and whatever entity that would be paying for NIL. Now all I hear is about schools structuring deals. I am beyond confused.
If anyone could explain, without calling me an idiot or telling me to get lost….., I legitimately would like to hear it.

Control, limits and tampering rules will have to be a part of this. If not, it’s nothing more than the Wild West where the gun slingers have the cash.
Told my wife this very thing just yesterday. It's a wild west shootout now, instead of players going where they can be developed by the coaching staff, or for the love of the school, now it's pay me more or I will find someone who will.

I agree, there has to be rules for this, rules help to control the chaos, and right now, college athletics are in a state of chaos.

I can't handle this crap anymore. I really can't.

Something has to be done. There's more movement than at the professional level. And the players' rear ends are being kissed more than at the professional level.

This isn't good and mark my words, there will be a day where it effects the viewership and bottom line.

As it is currently, it very well could go the way of the USFL, XFL. I love college football, been a Tennessee fan for about 60 years. This stuff is ridiculous, and I don't think it's sustainable in the long run. The fans start rebelling and stop putting their money into the program, either by not buying season tickets, not donating to the athletic fund, whatever choice of protest they choose, something has got to change.

Tampering is going to be very hard to prove, as I'm sure communication between the players and other interested parties are several layers deep. That's why regulations won't really fix this because no matter what rules are put in place, programs are very good at finding ways to circumvent them.

The only way to "fix" this is to completely burn the current system to the ground and do the following...

1. Appoint a CF commissioner.

2. Drop the academic facade and declare players no longer as "student" athletes but contract employees of the university.

3. Decree that all players have 5 years to play 4 and players must sign 4 year contracts, with the university having the option to pick up a 5th. This will eliminate the transfer portal nonsense. If players want to leave for the NFL after 3 years, the team that signs them has to agree to pick up the tab for their 4th year. If they refuse, the player must either return for their 4th season, or sit out.

4. Eliminate early signing day and restore it back to early February, like it was before.

5. Enforce a spending hard cap among all universities for NIL.

6. Each program can have a total of 85 players on the team, 70 on the official roster and 15 on the practice squad. This is plenty! If the NFL can function with a 53 man roster and 17 on their practice squad, college teams can function at 70/15.
I think the main issue with #5 is that NIL is not under the control of universities. The issue may be resolved by universities contracting with players as employees. Universities can offer 1-5 yr. contracts with higher annual "salaries" for longer-term commitments. Lots of details would have to be worked out in the contracts (injuries, conduct, academics, performance, etc.).

I was dumb enough to think the only difference was going to be players being paid. I didn't think 25% of every roster would leave every season.

This is going to effect the professional level as well. The same way the NBA is having to "teach" because these guys were only in college one season, you know the football guys are not getting the instruction they need jumping from program to program every season.

I was talking to someone this morning about this very thing. If something isn't done quickly to solve this issue, fans will start to go elsewhere. When they do that, so will the money and that will have a huge impact on NIL. He (and his family) donates to the vol club but doesn't know how much longer they will continue. They have had season tickets for over 50 years (passed down through generations) and don't like what it has become.
The inmates are running the asylum.

Coaches face unprecedented challenges nowadays just retaining a roster. I know they make a fortune but man do they have to earn it!

Forget the long run, it's not even sustainable in the short run. How is anyone in their right minds going to be okay with spending 300-700 dollars a game to cheer on a bunch of 18-20 year olds who can and will ditch them at a drop of a hat and the shake of a moneybag?

Like, how? Genuinely how? In what world are people going to root for players who care so little?

Because I sure as hell can't, and I've known that for years now.

5 star on paper, but not on the field yet. Seen many a "5 Star" not pan out
It's a little concerning IMO that as many injuries and as middling our receivers were MM couldn't show out in practice and make ppl say there's no way we keep him off the field behind this lineup.
Hés either overrated
low football IQ & can't think & adjust to audibles or blocking assignments on the fly a normal Freshman problem for some
Or coaches have misused him, this is hard to believe because you win at all costs and put the best om the field to put you in position to win.
He could be a terrible practice player and a gamer, but he's played and has not got anymore separation than any of the others. I think he had a TD vs Vandy I might be misremembering

Since last Saturday night, we realized that we've slipped behind some of our peers with our NIL.....

The new mercenary era stinks but everyone has to adapt...
We need a rule change that will tie the players to the universities for 4 years. And I mean FOUR years. This pendulum can swing the other way if there is enough impetus. While they might 'deserve' to be paid, they shouldn't have the right to destroy the programs.

Agreed. It’s bad and it will hurt the sport but i don't see any easy ways to mitigate it. I have a feeling CFB is going to do the same thing as nascar. It got too big and is gonna collapse.
