They haven't caught up with how to defend it...they've just watched film and realized that we always check into the same plays when the defense gives us a certain look. The offense has easily predictable tendencies, and that's a coaching/playcalling issue...not a scheme problem. The Arkansas DC admitted as much and an OSU defensive player said they knew exactly what we were going to do. If the defense knows what's coming, then obviously your offensive players are really handicapped before the ball is even snapped. We've completely lost the element of surprise because Heupel and the staff haven't done enough self-scouting to make sure they're not predictable. It's disappointing but also encouraging because that's easy to fix and could certainly lead to a leap forward on offense next season.
Also the offense is built on winning 1 on 1 match ups and we haven’t done that as consistently. Failure to get separation, overthrows and protection issues plagued us this season. But we were still a top 10 offense and the best rushing offense in the SEC. So it’s not like it’s entirely broken. Nico is good but I think we forget Hendon was a heisman caliber player that made great decisions and threw to 2 NFL WR’s including a bilitnekoff winner with a top 10 draft pick at tackle.

And we had none of those things on offense this year. However The Hendon hooker of 2022 is not the same player he was as a freshman at VT. And it takes awhile to develop at QB and OL especially.

@VolGee4 he got better during towards the end of the year but when he hit the jug machine and put in the work in the offseason was when he took off. When he returned for fall camp he was a different player. Not saying Pope didn’t help him at all, but Hyatt took the onus and did a lot of the work himself. Tillman got a lot better in 2021.
He only had 200+ receiving yards in 2021. I’m just stating the facts- Hyatt didn’t reach his potential until 2022. You criticize when necessary and praise when necessary.

Just a thought....... With all the turmoil and turnover we've had at the wr position I think the reason we haven't hit the portal there was likely to let things settle down, make sure all our ducks were in a row with current players first.

Y'all may not be a big fan of squirrel but with how little we return I find it hard to believe we wanted or encouraged him to leave.

For Nico's development this is horrible news. Breaking in a completely new wr room, having to get in sync and timing with new wr's.

If I take a step back and look at it through his eyes I could understand him contemplating making a move this off season. I think it very likely there was serious from Nico and his family about leaving. The MM situation kind supports this as well.

Wild times, I think we came very close to wheels completely coming off.

I almost agreed till you said Squirrel. I’d take any of those 3 over him.
His play was frustrating but if he had been healthy I think he could have had a great year. We all thought this year would be a breakout year with a qb that could get the ball to him on target. Was the only reason he didn’t have a bigger year last year.

Still hope squirrel and mm return.

If this is true, he needs to be gone today. Not developing talent is one thing, but pair that with recruiting losses and losing the locker room and you have a serious problem. No room for coaches that aren't delivering. I hate that CFB has become such a business, but if it is, you have to treat it that way. Deliver or go.

I'm sure the complaints about Pope are somewhat justified by the departing receivers, but let's wait and see where they end up. It's not like Wake Forest/Maryland are juggernauts that Webb is going to and it will be interesting to see where Nimrod, Squirrel, and Leacock end up.
