Not the way they are portal shopping. Their fans will probably tell you these guys barely played but at some point you're just recruiting HS players to fill depth spots on your roster with their strategy.

I think that #2 is a combination of both. Thornton was the #5 option at Oregon for a reason and behind 3 others that were in his same class. He was a physical freak but not a good receiver. We had to develop him, him learn the system and try to get the most out of him in a short amount of time. Brazzell was recruited as a DB at Tulane and only played receiver one year there. Once again we had to develop, him learn the system and learn how to perform at the SEC level. Fortunately we get him for 3 years.

Several with disagree with me but Thornton was a horrible portal pick up. We have invested so many reps and development in a guy where Nimrod/Webb/Leacock/Matthews developments have suffered for minimal production.

I disagree about Thornton being a horrible pick up at this point. The guy has made very big plays this year. He is the most dynamic receiver we have had this year when it comes to outrunning the defense.

But yes, it is clear he needed development.

Yeah if anything Thornton has needed more targets this year. The stats he’s put up with limited targets is actually pretty insane. Imagine 20 more targets for him. He’d be well over 1k yards. 26 yards per reception is ridiculous.

Minimal production? He’s our leading receiver this season both in yards and touchdowns. His production sucked last season, but this season he’s been our only consistent big play threat in the passing game.

Please no one flame me, but the only “big time” portal entry for us that would make any kind of sense would be one of our freshman OL or a big name like Squirrel, and I feel stupid even mentioning him.
